Revolución de Cuba, located in Aberdeen’s Academy Centre, delivers Latin-inspired food, tapas and an array of cocktails. During the day, the restaurant is well-suited for lunch or early gatherings, offering a menu that ranges from light bites to sharing plates.
Larder Magazine was invited to try out the menu and started with a selection of tapas. To begin was charred halloumi, served with roasted vegetables and sweet potatoes alongside a chilli jam, the combination made for a satisfying dish that didn’t feel heavy.
Gambas Pil Pil was next, with king prawns coated in garlic and chilli oil for a slight kick, it also came with bread which made the dish more filling. Chorizo a la Sidra featured sausage sautéed in cider, combining subtle heat and sweetness that doesn’t overpower the dish.
To finish, the Chicken Enchiladas and Cajun Cream Mushrooms tapas arrived together. The enchiladas, filled with chicken and vegetables in a gently spiced tomato sauce, were the highlight, though a little more heat would have been welcome for those who enjoy spice.
The mushrooms were served in a creamy Cajun sauce with a slight spice, and the smokey flavour of the sauce complemented the mushrooms. Using the tortilla chips from the enchiladas to dip into the sauce worked particularly well.
Cocktails accompanied the food, including a Cuba Libre, a refreshing mix of rum, lime and Coca-Cola, Cuban Sangria full of fruit flavours, and Miami Vice, which blended a strawberry daiquiri and piña colada for a smooth, sweet note. Of the three, Miami Vice stood out; the playful mix of flavours worked remarkably well and added a welcome point of difference.
The variety of cocktails available means there is something for every taste, and sipping the Miami Vice made it easy to imagine a sunny day by the beach.

Throughout the visit, customer service was excellent, the atmosphere felt relaxed and upbeat, and the overall standard of the food was high. Revolución de Cuba offers a strong option for both daytime and evening dining in Aberdeen, particularly for those looking for something a little different, with a varied selection that’s ideal for sharing!
