Diageo’s flagship hospitality skills programme, Learning for Life, has marked another strong year, supporting 838 new participants across the UK into rewarding careers in the hospitality industry.

Delivered in partnership with the hospitality charity Springboard, the programme equips people from all backgrounds with the skills needed to succeed in the sector, while fostering confidence, resilience, and career ambition.

The last twelve months saw 778 graduates successfully complete the course across the UK, with 265 of those based in Scotland. London, Glasgow, and Birmingham were the top three locations for new participants, with 188, 111, and 86 new starts respectively, reflecting both the demand for skilled talent and the programme’s growing reach.

Ongoing partnerships with leading hospitality employers continued to provide clear pathways into work, with the Hilton, Nando’s, and The Ivy employing the largest number of Learning for Life graduates this year. These long-term collaborations with key industry players continue to offer both practical placements and job opportunities while enabling participants to experience the standards expected by some of the UK’s most respected hospitality brands.

2025 also saw graduates participate in high-profile trade and consumer events that brought their skills and confidence to the spotlight including the Burns Supper at the Scottish Consulate in London as well as supporting Diageo’s Johnnie Walker Drop in Edinburgh.

Reflecting on the year, Gillian Dalziel, Learning for Life Programme Manager at Diageo, said “It’s so rewarding to see our graduates apply their skills, confidence, and passion in real workplace settings – whether behind the bar, on the floor, or in front-of-house. I’m immensely proud of everything they’ve achieved and how they’ve embraced every opportunity the programme offers. We can’t wait to build on this success in 2026 and continue helping more people launch their careers in hospitality.”

Kelly Johnstone, Chief Operations Officer at Springboard and Chair of the Scottish Tourism and Hospitality Skills Group, added “This year has reinforced the vital role of Learning for Life in building the UK’s hospitality talent pipeline which continues to face a shortage of skilled workers. We are grateful to Diageo for their continued support and proud of the partnerships we’ve developed with employers who share our vision. Together, we’re creating real opportunities for people to grow, develop, and contribute to a thriving industry.”

Recent graduate Jack Rudkin highlighted the value of the programme, noting “Before joining Learning for Life, I didn’t feel confident about finding a job in hospitality. I thought I didn’t have enough experience. My time on this course has changed that. I’ve learned so many practical skills, but the biggest difference has been in myself. I feel more confident, more positive, and more excited about what comes next.”

With over 8,000 graduates in the UK since its launch, Learning for Life continues to break down barriers, equip people with the skills they need, and open doors to sustainable careers across the hospitality sector.
