The Lost Close in Edinburgh is launching a new underground storytelling and whisky experience exploring the lives of four women caught up in Scotland’s witch trials.

From the Ashes: The Untold Stories of Scotland’s Condemned Women will take guests beneath the city’s streets for a 90-minute experience combining historical accounts with four drams of Scotch whisky. The experience is listed on the venue’s website, with tickets priced at £52.

Moving beyond the myths often associated with witchcraft, the event will focus on four real women whose lives were shaped by fear, suspicion and persecution.

Each woman’s story will be paired with a whisky selected to reflect her character, vitality and legacy. The drams will accompany key moments in the accounts, using flavour and aroma to add a sensory element to the storytelling.

Andrew Gardiner, assistant manager at The Lost Close, said: “From the Ashes is about giving voice to women whose stories have too often been lost to time.

“The experience has been researched and written by some of the incredible women on our team who have a true passion for bringing hidden histories and forgotten lives back into the light. We wanted to create something that goes beyond the myths of the witch trials and centres the real people affected by them, inviting guests to discover a deeper, more human side of Scotland’s past.”

Through its combination of history and whisky, the experience aims to honour the women’s resilience and humanity while encouraging visitors to reflect on the human cost of the trials.

Events will take place on 20, 21, 27 and 28 November, running from 7.30pm to 9pm at The Lost Close, 1 Barrie’s Close, Edinburgh.

Booking is essential, with limited availability and small group sizes. Tickets are available through The Lost Close website.
