08/05/2024

Ben Lomond Gin has clinched a prestigious Double Gold for its Original Scottish Gin at the renowned San Francisco World Spirits Competition (SFWSC), solidifying its place among the world’s finest spirits.

Established in 2019, Ben Lomond Gin has swiftly gained acclaim as one of Scotland’s most exciting gin brands, celebrated for its bold and versatile flavor profiles. This recent accolade marks the brand’s inaugural triumph on the global stage.

Inspired by the breathtaking natural landscapes of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs, Ben Lomond Gin is meticulously distilled using a blend of 11 botanicals, harmonizing Scottish essence with exotic botanicals sourced from around the globe to craft a truly distinctive and adaptable spirit.

Crafted in the classic London Dry style, the Original Scottish Gin incorporates locally foraged rowan berries, Scottish blackcurrants, whole oranges, and Szechuan pepper. This unique combination of fresh and dried botanicals delivers a balanced, versatile, and flavor-packed gin bursting with floral, citrus, and spice notes.

The San Francisco World Spirits Competition, established in 2000, stands as the world’s largest spirits competition, boasting esteemed judges with decades of industry expertise.

In this year’s edition, the competition reviewed 5,500 entries across over 30 categories. Over four days of meticulously controlled blind tastings, judging panels sampled each product to ascertain its medal-worthiness. Judges evaluated entries purely on taste, without any knowledge of producer or price point.

Gold medals are reserved for “exceptional spirits nearing the pinnacle of achievement,” with Double Gold bestowed upon entries that earn a unanimous Gold medal rating from all judges. The competition results revealed that less than 1% of all awarded spirits were Double Gold London Dry gins.

John Grieveson, Chief Marketing Officer of Ben Lomond Gin owner Loch Lomond Group, expressed immense pride in receiving this accolade, emphasizing the brand’s commitment to crafting premium, versatile gin that reflects Scotland’s beauty and heritage.

This international recognition marks a significant milestone for Ben Lomond Gin, inspiring the team to continue nurturing the brand’s adventurous spirit, inviting drinkers to explore a world of flavors and experiment at their leisure.

Ben Lomond Gin’s participation in the SFWSC follows a period of exciting growth in 2023, including being named the first Official Gin of The Open. The brand also partnered with the John Muir Trust to launch The Explorer Series, supporting the conservation of the UK’s wild places.

Produced in Scotland by the award-winning Loch Lomond Group, which also owns key whisky brands like Loch Lomond Whiskies and Glen Scotia Single Malt Scotch Whisky, Ben Lomond Gin exemplifies the group’s dedication to crafting exceptional spirits.

With Loch Lomond Distillery named “most awarded distillery” at the 2023 SFWSC, the group is poised for similar success this year, with Loch Lomond Whiskies receiving 15 awards and Glen Scotia earning 12 accolades.
