BrewDog returns to profitability in 2024 after global expansion

Ellon-based craft beer giant BrewDog has reported a return to profitability for the first time since 2021, following a year of global expansion and operational improvements.

The brewer posted adjusted earnings before tax of £7.5 million for the year ending 31 December 2024. Gross revenues reached £357 million, with net revenues at £280 million.

Chief executive James Taylor described the results as a significant milestone: “2024 was a transformative year for BrewDog, and I am pleased to report the company has returned to profitability for the first time in several years.

“After a challenging 2023, we streamlined operations and improved our efficiency across our global footprint, which had a tangible impact on our bottom line.”

While headline revenue growth slowed compared to previous years, BrewDog saw its largest venues deliver strong performance, with like-for-like sales up 10% at its Waterloo site in London and 5% in Las Vegas. Its Australian operation also recorded gross revenue growth of 34.4%.

During the year, the company opened nine new franchise locations in key markets including Bangkok, Perth, Denver and Rotterdam. Domestically, new outlets launched at transport hubs such as Edinburgh Waverley, Belfast Grand Central and London Waterloo’s Waterloo Arms.

BrewDog also achieved a record UK market share of 4.56% and secured a four-year deal to become the official beer partner at Lord’s Cricket Ground, replacing all previous tap suppliers from January.

Operationally, BrewDog completed the commissioning of its Brew House 2, increasing brewing capacity to 2.5 million hectolitres. The addition of a new hopping system contributed to a £1.4 million improvement in productivity.

Taylor added: “While our topline revenue growth slowed, we remain at historic highs demonstrating the continued appeal of our brilliant beers, the power of our brand, and the strong appetite for quality craft beer.

“We remain focused on delivering sustainable profitable growth, so that we can continue to invest in our beers, our bars and most importantly our people.”

BrewDog now employs 2,400 people worldwide, having doubled its workforce since 2020.
