It’s official – Crerar Hotels serves up the world’s best steaks

Award-winning John Gilmour Butchers will now supply Crerar Hotels seven four- and five-star properties with the finest Scotch beef

A LEADING Scottish hotel group has announced a new partnership with a family-run Scottish butcher to bring top quality beef to the menu across its portfolio.

John Gilmour Butchers, which won two gold medals at the World Steak Challenge 2021 awards, will now supply Crerar Hotels’ seven four- and- five-star properties with the finest Scotch beef.

In line with Crerar Hotels’ ethos of sourcing and serving the finest seasonal Scottish produce, John Gilmour Butchers is sourcing prime cattle from Crerar Hotels’ Home Farm and its pedigree herd of slow growing, grass fed Lamermuir Luings.

The succulent beef will be enjoyed by diners across each of the hotel group’s restaurants, from Deeside to Glencoe – including the recently refurbished Oran na Mara restaurant at Isle of Mull Hotel & Spa, which recently received its first AA Rosette.

Third-generation family business, John Gilmour Butchers, uses the skills and experience built up over almost 70 years of trading to produce the very best Scotch beef.

With the origins of John Gilmour Butchers beginning just after the Second World War, the company utilises its longstanding presence and stellar reputation within Scottish communities to work with the best local farmers.

The butchers won gold for its grass-fed rib-eye and sirloin steaks which can now be ordered at any of the Crerar hotels or inns.

Chris Wayne-Wills, CEO of Crerar Hotels, said: “We are immensely proud to partner with John Gilmour Butchers. We aim to always show our guests the very best of what Scotland has to offer, so working with this family-run butcher to bring locally sourced Scotch beef to the table at each of our hotels and inns was a natural progression.

“We are particularly looking forward to expanding our restaurants’ offering to include native Scottish breeds.

“There’s no doubt this will bolster our already fantastic food and drink offering across our portfolio – adding yet another touch of authentic Scottish hospitality that we’re sure will go down a treat with diners.”

Simon Gilmour, co-owner of John Gilmour Butchers, said: “We’re delighted to embark on this new journey with Crerar Hotel Group, bringing some of the best beef in the UK to its stunning Scottish locations. What’s more, this new partnership will allow us to continue to support local Scottish farmers and their surrounding rural communities, some of whom we have been working with for over 40 years.

“Guests at Crerar Hotels’ locations will be pleased to know that our beef is selected from small-batch, sustainable farms with grass-fed cattle. Our products, therefore, are as environmentally friendly as possible and comply with the highest welfare standards.”

John Gilmour Butchers’ Scotch beef will feature on menus at Loch Fyne Hotel & Spa, Thainstone House, Oban Bay Hotel, Isle of Mull Hotel & Spa, Golf View Hotel & Spa, The Glencoe Inn, and Deeside Inn.
