Two Aberdeen Uni Graduates turn restaurateurs with a “healthy, authentic” concept; confirms a set-menu for Aberdeen Restaurant Week from 1–14 September.
Luna Chinese Bistro has opened on Union Street, positioning itself as an authenticity-first entrant to Aberdeen’s city-centre dining scene. Co-owners Lasco Liu and Jue Wang, both graduates of the University of Aberdeen, say the bistro focuses on dishes and techniques widely eaten across mainland China rather than the sweeter, anglicised recipes common in the UK.
Speaking to Aberdeen Business News, Liu said: “At Luna Chinese Bistro, we focus on authentic Chinese cuisine, which sets us apart from the UK-style Chinese food that is more commonly found in Aberdeen. Our approach is centred on healthy cooking — we don’t alter recipes to suit trends by adding overly sweet sauces or artificial colouring. This authenticity is something truly unique in the city’s food scene.”
He added that the business is designed to contribute to footfall on the high street: “With a flavour profile that cannot be found elsewhere on Union Street, we believe Luna will naturally attract diners and bring something distinctive to the heart of the city. In doing so, we hope to contribute to drawing more people back to Union Street and support its wider revival.”
Located at 345 Union Street, the restaurant’s launch adds to a steady stream of independent openings aimed at broadening the Granite City’s food offer. Luna’s positioning is consistent with its public marketing, which highlights “the real taste of mainland China” and a menu spanning dim sum and regional stir-fries.
Liu said the short-term priority is consistency and brand building. “Looking ahead, our main priority is to establish Luna as a trusted destination for authentic Chinese dining. While we are focused on strengthening our foundations in the near term, we do see scope in the future for expanding our offering, developing new concepts, and exploring partnerships within Aberdeen’s hospitality community.” The team expects to roll out the full menu between September and October, he added.

Luna will take part in the next edition of Aberdeen Restaurant Week (1–14 September), organised by Aberdeen Inspired, with a £25 set menu. “For Aberdeen Restaurant Week, we are especially excited about the main courses we are presenting. These dishes are classics that every household in China would recognise. Through this menu, we want to share with people here what authentic Chinese flavours truly taste like, and at the same time, exchange culture and ideas. We also look forward to receiving feedback from diners during this event,” Liu told Aberdeen Business News.
