Proposed £4.6 Million Development to Create 57 Local Jobs at Ury Estate

M&S is encouraging Aberdeenshire residents to show their support for plans to bring a new fresh market-style foodhall to Ury Estate in Stonehaven. This proposed £4.6 million investment aims to establish a modern food shopping destination, set to open in Spring 2028 if approved. The development is anticipated to create around 57 local jobs, alongside further opportunities through construction and the broader logistics supply chain.

The multi-million-pound project would see M&S open a 16,000 sq. ft. store alongside a new Aldi foodstore, collectively forming a major new retail hub for the town and its surrounding area. This investment is part of M&S’s commitment to supporting and growing its presence within Aberdeenshire, offering customers access to a wide range of products.

The new M&S Foodhall would feature the full range of more than 6,600 products, from Select Farms fresh produce and an in-store bakery to everyday essentials. This includes Remarksable Value, which combines benchmarked prices with trusted quality, alongside more than 50 organic favourites. Customers would also be able to easily collect online fashion, home, and beauty orders via a dedicated Click & Collect point, with extensive parking, EV charging facilities, and new pedestrian connections making shopping more accessible.

Local sourcing is central to M&S Food’s strategy, with Scotland and Aberdeenshire playing a key role. M&S sources around £300 million of goods from Scottish suppliers each year, working with 4,000 farms, sea farms, and fishing vessels. More than 2,500 M&S products contain Scottish-sourced ingredients, and 60% of the protein sold by M&S comes from Scotland. Aberdeenshire is home to 449 M&S Select Farms, more than any other Scottish region, including Turriff-based free-range and organic egg supplier Duncan Farms.

Scott Munro, M&S Regional Manager, stated: “Customer shopping habits are changing, and we are adapting by rotating our store estate to ensure we have the right stores with the right space to deliver an excellent shopping experience for our customers. This multi-million-pound investment in Stonehaven offers an enhanced shopping experience in a modern, accessible retail destination and we hope to receive a swift planning determination so we can move forward with our plans.” Residents can visit www.stonehavenmands.com to find out more about the proposal and submit a letter of support to Aberdeenshire Council.
