Aberdeen is set to reclaim its place on the whisky map with the approval of a planning application for the Bon Accord Distillery.

This new venture will be built on the historic site of the original Bon Accord Drinks factory on Greyhope Road, honoring the city’s rich heritage while advancing its future in whisky production.

The facility will not only produce high-quality single malt Scotch whisky but also serve as a visitor attraction, drawing whisky enthusiasts from around the world to Aberdeen’s waterfront.

The distillery plans to offer guided tours, interactive exhibits, and tasting sessions, providing an immersive experience that celebrates the craftsmanship and history of Scotland’s national drink.

Davis Gonnella, brand director of Bon Accord Distillery, emphasised the project’s commitment to showcasing local businesses and produce, stating, “We want Bon Accord Distillery to be a source of pride for Aberdonians.”

The distillery will feature a section where local food businesses can showcase their products to visitors, highlighting the best of North East Scotland’s produce alongside the quality whisky made on site.

The project aims to blend innovation with tradition, transforming the site where generations of Aberdonians fondly remember the Bon Accord Drinks factory into a state-of-the-art distillery.

The design will incorporate elements that pay tribute to the city’s industrial sea-links, featuring floor-to-ceiling windows with views of the harbor and incoming vessels.

Joining forces with well-known brewers Fierce Beer and Master Chef John Chomba, who comes on as managing director, the distillery is set to become a significant addition to Aberdeen’s food and drink scene.

Fierce Beer, one of Scotland’s most award-winning breweries and the only brewery within city bounds, brings valuable experience to the project.

The Bon Accord Distillery is expected to have a significant economic impact, creating jobs during construction and providing long-term employment opportunities once operational.

The visitor center, gift shop, and other facilities are likely to boost local businesses and tourism, positioning Aberdeen as a must-visit destination for whisky enthusiasts.

With construction set to begin in the summer of 2025, the Bon Accord Distillery marks an exciting new chapter for Aberdeen, blending its rich industrial heritage with a promising future in whisky production
