The Boston Bar Old Town opened its doors on Friday 20 February, marking Encore Bars Group’s first venture into Edinburgh’s Old Town and introducing its Irish-American neighbourhood bar concept to Niddry Street.

The launch WEEKEND saw the newly transformed venue trade across three nights, with guests settling into the bar’s arches, lower-level spaces and fireplace room as it made its debut between the Royal Mile and Cowgate.

Housed within the former Globe Bar, the site retains the building’s character while introducing cosy, segmented snugs inspired by traditional Irish bars. The result is a space designed to move from daytime sport and casual drinks through to late-night energy, with a 3am licence on Fridays and Saturdays.

Everything established at The Boston Bar on Hanover Street arrives in the Old Town, from live sport and weekly quiz nights to comedy, trad sessions and DJs, alongside craft cocktails, quality draught beers and premium spirits. The full weekly programme begins from Monday 2 March with Davey’s Smartphone Quiz, followed by weekly comedy nights in the dedicated Craic Hoose space from Tuesday 3 March.

Attention now turns to the venue’s first St Patrick’s Day in the Old Town on 17 March, when doors will open from 11am with live music and traditional Irish dancers planned throughout the day. Celebrations will extend across Encore’s Edinburgh venues including The Boston Bar on Hanover Street, Freddy’s and Westside Rodeo.

Edward Fox, Director of Encore Bars Group, said: “Bringing Boston to the Old Town has been a natural next step for us. The building has so much character and we’ve worked hard to make sure the space feels true to both the area and the brand. It’s an exciting moment for the group and we’re delighted with how our launch WEEKEND went.”
