WALKER’S Shortbread welcomed ITV’s This Morning to Aberlour to film a special feature on the 125-year-old Scottish business.
In a segment which aired today (Friday 2nd February), celebrity food writer and presenter Donal Skehan introduced viewers to the home of Walker’s Shortbread, to learn more about the iconic brand which plays a part in Scottish traditions across the globe.
Viewers were told the history of the family-run business, which was founded in 1898 by Joseph Walker, and got to see the inner workings of the Walker’s Shortbread factory in Aberlour, hearing from one local staff member, Linda Ewen, who has worked at the Company for more than 43 years.
Alastair Walker, Head of International Sales at Walker’s Shortbread, and fourth generation of the Walker’s family, spoke to the business’ success over the years, from humble beginnings in the Scottish Highlands to now exporting to more than 100 markets worldwide.
He noted that provenance and heritage is central to the Walker’s brand and is part of what makes it so popular across the globe – particularly during celebrations such as Burn’s Night, Christmas and New Year.
Peeking behind the scenes inside Walker’s factory, Donal saw first-hand how the company continues to honour Joseph Walker’s ambitions of baking ‘Scotland’s finest shortbread’, using the same recipe as it did more than a century ago – with a masterful baking technique which ensures the brand’s iconic shortbread is baked to perfection.
Nicky Walker, Managing Director at Walker’s Shortbread, said: “We were thrilled to welcome ITV’s This Morning to Aberlour for them to learn more about the history and story of Walker’s Shortbread. Our business wouldn’t be what it is today without our valued staff and customers, who have played such an important part in the Walker’s journey.
“Shortbread is synonymous with Scotland and plays such a special part in celebrations all year round. We were delighted to give viewers a brief insight into what goes on behind the scenes making the product that we hope will enhance traditions, both old and new, across the globe.”
The episode is available to watch on online on ITV X and STV Player.
