As a tried and tested Scottish staple, porridge has long welcomed creative toppings, from a simple pinch of salt to fresh berries and even mushrooms. But are Scots brave enough to try a savoury take on the classic bowl of porridge by adding fish to their morning bowl of oats?

That’s the question Aldi Scotland is asking as it teams up with a Glasgow mum and foodie influencer, Lauren Gourlay, aka Lauren’s Cravings, to whip up a brand-new breakfast twist – Kedgeree Porridge – just in time for National Porridge Week (6 – 12 October).

The humble bowl of oats is getting a bold makeover as Aldi Scotland and Lauren blend creamy porridge with smoked mackerel, egg, and spices inspired by the classic British dish, kedgeree.

Would you try this bold and brave new take on porridge? Scots are tried and tested porridge lovers with the oat breakfast being big business in Scotland with over nine million* bowls made last year using Scottish oats.

With National Porridge Week underway, Aldi Scotland is encouraging Scots to get creative in the kitchen, whether with – fruity favourites like blackberry oat muffins or bold savoury experiments like this new Kedgeree Porridge.

Graham Nicolson, Group Buying Director for Aldi Scotland, said: “Porridge is a staple part of Scotland’s breakfast menu, it’s affordable, filling and full of goodness. We love seeing our customers push the boundaries, and this take from Lauren proves just how creative you can get with oats.

“Whether it’s sweet, savoury, or even fishy, porridge is the perfect base for trying something new.”

Lauren Gourlay, food content creator at Lauren’s Cravings added: “When Aldi first challenged me to make a savoury porridge, I wasn’t sure what to expect – but it totally works!

“The creamy oats and smoked fish are a match made in heaven. It’s comfort food with a twist, and perfect for anyone who wants to start their day with something a bit different.”
