The production of Cream o’ Galloway, a beloved ice cream brand from the south of Scotland, is set to relocate 150 miles south to North Yorkshire.
The brand, originally established in 1994 near Gatehouse of Fleet, was acquired by Brymor last year in what the new owners described as a “just in time” rescue deal to preserve the cherished name.
Despite continuing production at its original farm throughout 2024, Brymor has now decided to consolidate operations at its facility near Masham, Yorkshire, citing the need for significant investment to modernise the ageing Scottish site.
In a statement on its website, Brymor explained that the move would allow Cream o’ Galloway to benefit from “newer, more efficient equipment” and environmentally sustainable practices introduced at the Yorkshire site over the past four years.
While production shifts south, distribution of the Cream o’ Galloway range will still be managed from Ashland’s in Twynholm.
Additionally, the brand’s ice cream parlour will relocate to the nearby Cocoabean Company.
Cream o’ Galloway has been a popular attraction since its inception, with a play area added in 1995 and a visitor centre opening in 2000.
However, its woodland playground closed in 2020 due to the impact of Covid-19, and the brand was sold to Brymor in 2022.
Brymor’s decision marks a new chapter for Cream o’ Galloway while aiming to ensure its long-term sustainability and growth.
