Scotland’s number one dairy launches the UK’s first ever layered high-protein cottage cheese as demand for the retro favourite reaches new heights.

Cottage cheese is having another moment, and Graham’s Family Dairy is leading the way with a category-first innovation – the UK’s first layered high-protein cottage cheese.

The brand-new range pairs traditional cottage cheese with fruit layers and this is the first time the product has been on UK shop shelves. Available in strawberry and peach flavours, each 200g pot delivers a hearty 25g of protein and comes in at under 200 calories, crafted for today’s protein-hungry consumers seeking natural, great tasting food.

This launch comes amid a major cottage cheese resurgence, with sales of Graham’s Family Dairy cottage cheese sales growing by nearly 30% in 2025. In anticipation of booming demand, the independent family dairy recently completed a £3.5m investment at its Glenfield site in Fife, expanding production capacity by 50% and creating 30 local jobs.

Fuelled by a social media-fuelled craze for high-protein, wholesome foods, cottage cheese has become one of the fastest-growing and most talked-about products in the dairy aisle. Last month, Tesco reported demand had surged 200% in the past two years, cementing cottage cheese’s place as one of the biggest food trends of modern times.

Robert Graham, Managing Director at Graham’s Family Dairy said:

“Cottage cheese has seen an extraordinary comeback, driven in no small part by social media and a renewed focus on high-protein, no-nonsense food. What’s interesting is that this isn’t a short-lived craze – it’s a fundamental shift in how people are eating – and we have been working hard to meet these demands.

“For a while now we’ve been planning our growth in this space – which is why we chose to invest in both our production capability and our family business. The brand new layered protein cottage cheese is a first for the UK market, but it’s still made using our traditional open-vat process, which gives it the texture and quality people recognise, avoiding ultra processing.”

The new product has launched and is now available on shelves exclusively in Tesco stores across the UK.

The layered range builds on the family business’ already established cottage cheese portfolio, including natural, low fat and high protein lines, and reflects a wider innovation pipeline now unlocked by increased open-vat, incubation and filling capacity at the Glenfield site.

Alongside the significant factory expansion, the family-run business has also invested a five-figure sum in refreshing its own-brand and visual identity for its traditional cottage cheese range.

Beyond cottage cheese, Graham’s Family Dairy produces a diverse selection of award-winning dairy products including the Gold Top and Organic ranges of products, milk, cream, butter, spreadable butter, ice cream, cottage cheese, quark, yogurt, Kefir and a protein-rich product line. The family business is the largest UK based supplier of protein pouch products. All products are made using the finest ingredients from 100 specially selected Scottish farms.

While the business continues to modernise, it remains closely tied to its roots. The company’s Chairman, Dr Robert Graham – whose father founded the business in the 1930s –  joined the farm at the age of 10 and now has more than 74 years’ experience in farming and dairy production.
