Edinburgh Cocktail Week Set to Boost Local Economy with Star-Studded Line-up

Ninth Annual Festival Anticipates Major Economic Impact for Capital’s Thriving Hospitality Sector

Edinburgh is gearing up for its ninth annual Cocktail Week, an event poised to inject significant revenue into the city’s robust hospitality sector with a diverse programme featuring celebrity-backed spirit brands. The festival, supported by Essential Edinburgh, will run for ten days from Friday, 2 October to Sunday, 11 October 2026, transforming the capital into a vibrant hub for cocktail enthusiasts.

A key highlight of this year’s event is the inclusion of A-list owned brands such as Crossfire Rum, co-owned by The Rolling Stones, and Teremana Tequila, founded by Hollywood actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. These celebrity endorsements reflect a growing trend in the spirits industry, where star power often translates to increased market penetration and consumer interest. Celebrity-backed tequila brands, for instance, saw a 16% growth in 2023, significantly outperforming the overall category’s 3% growth, while celebrity rums grew by 11% in a market that otherwise declined by 4%.

The festival’s central attraction, the Cocktail Village at Festival Square, will host 25 pop-up bars, offering concoctions from prestigious names like Tito’s Vodka, Grey Goose Vodka, Guinness, and Moët & Chandon, alongside the aforementioned celebrity brands. The village will also feature live music, DJs, a Champagne Bar, street food trucks, a drinks terrace, an Irish Pub, and lawn games, creating an immersive “clubhouse for cocktail lovers.”

Beyond Festival Square, over 120 bars across the city will participate, serving £6 Signature Cocktails exclusively to wristband holders. This extensive participation includes returning favourites such as The Dome, Tigerlily, and The Alchemist, as well as several newly opened venues like Understory and The Beverly.

For those seeking elevated experiences, a curated selection of Prestige Cocktails will be available for £9 each. These high-end serves are crafted by Edinburgh’s most acclaimed mixologists at award-winning venues including Panda & Sons, Hey Palu, and The Register Club.

The economic contribution of Edinburgh’s festivals, including events like Cocktail Week, is substantial. A recent report indicated that the city’s festivals are projected to generate a gross economic impact of over £4.2 billion for Scotland over the next five years, with the majority of this benefit felt in the hospitality and tourism sectors. Edinburgh has consistently been recognised as a leading hotel market in the UK, maintaining the top spot in the Colliers Hotel Market Index 2026 since 2018, driven by strong occupancy rates and average daily rates. This robust performance is further supported by year-round demand, fuelled by the city’s numerous cultural and leisure attractions.

Gary Anderson, Managing Director of Edinburgh Cocktail Week, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming event, stating: “We’re excited to be back for our ninth year and are looking forward to bringing people together and showcasing and supporting Edinburgh’s world-recognised hospitality scene.”

Roddy Smith, Chief Executive of Essential Edinburgh, a Business Improvement District (BID) dedicated to enhancing the city centre, highlighted the festival’s importance: “Essential Edinburgh is delighted to support Edinburgh Cocktail Week for a sixth consecutive year. It is a firm highlight in the calendar for many of our local bars and residents. With some of the world’s best cocktail bars – and a regular place among the global top ten — Edinburgh is the perfect home for the UK’s largest and, arguably, finest cocktail festival. This year’s festival has even more to enjoy across the city centre, so don’t miss the chance to sample some exceptional tipples!”

Essential Edinburgh’s role involves investing in local improvements beyond those provided by the local authority, focusing on increasing customer numbers and revenue for city centre businesses. The BID, formed in 2008, operates on a five-year term and is funded by a levy on businesses within its defined area.

The event taps into the broader “experience economy,” a growing trend where UK consumers increasingly prioritise spending on memorable experiences over material possessions. Experiential marketing, which Edinburgh Cocktail Week exemplifies, has seen significant growth, with event marketing budgets in the UK surging by 23% in the first quarter of 2024. This shift is particularly driven by younger generations, who are more engaged with spirits and cocktails, seeking novelty, flavour, and shareable social content.

Wristbands for the festival, offering unlimited access to discounted Signature and Prestige Cocktails and entry to the Cocktail Village, are available for purchase online. Prices range from £8 for a weekday pass to £20 for a VIP Pass, inclusive of booking fees.
