A limited-edition whisky has been unveiled to commemorate Aberdeen International Airport’s 90th anniversary.

The special release, a Chieftain’s 11-Year-Old Single Cask, is exclusively available at the airport’s World Duty Free store.

Only 216 bottles have been produced, making it a rare collector’s item. The whisky was first revealed to invited guests at a civic reception held at Aberdeen Town House on 26 September.

More than 80 stakeholders and partners attended the event, hosted by the Lord Provost, to celebrate the airport’s nine-decade milestone.

Sourced from Speyside, the single malt has been matured in a first-fill bourbon cask and bottled at cask strength in September.

This process has resulted in a whisky with a distinctive flavour profile that represents Scotland’s rich whisky heritage.

The exclusive bottling will be available for purchase by both domestic and international travellers from 2 October, priced at £110.

This release is the result of a collaboration between World Duty Free, Aberdeen International Airport, and Chieftain’s.

This launch coincides with the airport’s call for passengers and former colleagues to share their memories as it begins its 90th year celebrations

Mark Beveridge, Managing Director at Aberdeen International Airport, said: “We are thrilled to introduce this exceptional whisky as part of our 90th-anniversary celebrations.

“This limited-edition release not only pays homage to Scotland’s rich whisky tradition but also symbolises the enduring legacy of Aberdeen International Airport as a gateway to the world.

“It was incredibly fitting we were able to share this fantastic endeavour with our supporters in the Town House and we know many are now keen to get their hands on a bottle when they travel through the airport.”

Speaking on behalf of World Duty Free, Paul Martin, Category Manager for Liquor in the UK continues, “Within our World Duty Free stores, we are constantly looking for new, exclusive and exciting liquor products to offer our customers.

“We are therefore proud to partner with Chieftain’s and bring this exquisite whisky exclusively to our Aberdeen customers, in celebration of Aberdeen International Airport’s 90th anniversary.”

The civic reception at the Town House underscored the strong partnerships and community ties that have been integral to the airport’s success over the past 90 years. The evening was a fitting tribute to the airport’s past achievements and a look towards future success for the region.

Councillor Neil MacGregor, who hosted the Civic Reception on behalf of the Lord Provost said: “I was delighted to host the civic reception that marked the 90th anniversary of Aberdeen International Airport.

“The city’s international airport has played a vital role in the success of Aberdeen’s economy and business and trade industries.

“The launch of the limited-edition whisky is a fitting way to mark such an important milestone.”
