Ardbeg House, the recently opened world-class whisky and hospitality experience on the Isle of Islay, welcomes a new chapter with the appointment of Richard Needham as General Manager. Nestled on the shores of the picturesque village of Port Ellen, just a stone’s throw from Ardbeg Distillery, this boutique hotel offers locals and the island’s visitors the unique opportunity to eat, sleep and drink Ardbeg.

Designed in collaboration with interior storymakers Russell Sage Studio to celebrate the best of Islay – complemented by handcrafted pieces from more than 20 Scottish and Islay artisans – the House blends Ardbeg’s signature smoky character with the island’s warmth, creativity and community. As General Manager, Richard will oversee all elements of the guest experience, operations and team culture, ensuring every visitor experiences a one-of-a-kind hospitality experience with an Ardbeggian twist.

Richard Needham brings a wealth of experience in luxury hospitality and creating immersive, unforgettable guest experiences to Ardbeg House, following four years as Operations Manager and Hotel Manager at the Fife Arms – also designed by the esteemed Russell Sage Studio. Previous to this, he worked as Duty Manager at the prestigious Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, A Belmond Hotel, in Oxfordshire.

Speaking on his appointment, Richard Needham said: “Ardbeg House is bold, characterful and rooted in place. For me, world class hospitality is about unique and personalised experiences, and Ardbeg House embodies that essence; from food and drink with an Ardbeg twist showcasing the best of Islay’s larder, to the local stories woven into all aspects of the hotel’s design, and surprise and delight details waiting to be discovered.

“I’m thrilled to be joining the team and am looking forward to welcoming many whisky lovers old and new through our doors to discover this completely unique hotel, restaurant and bar on Islay.”

Ardbeg House opened its doors to first guests in September 2025. To find out more, or to book a stay, visit www.ardbeg.com/visitus/ardbeghouse.html.
