An Edinburgh restaurant has earned its place in the prestigious Michelin Guide for Great Britain and Ireland.

Since its launch in 2018, Lucky Yu on Broughton Street has been bringing its own brand of irreverent Asian fusion small plates to Edinburgh’s culinary scene. What started out as a tiny hole-in-the-wall canteen has blossomed into an institution with a cult following.

The restaurant now joins a prestigious list of restaurants in the Scottish capital to be recognised by Michelin for culinary excellence.

Founded in 1900, the Michelin Guide celebrates only the best food and drink experiences around the world. All restaurants featured in the guide are considered good, with the ‘Michelin Recommended’ status.

Lucky Yu’s fun and innovative menu offers speciality gyoza, bao buns and a wide range of Asian inspired small plates. Speciality dishes on the Lucky Yu menu include grilled sake and soy-cured monkfish tail with sambal salad pickled mooli; alongside restaurant favourites such as roasted aubergines with a miso and sesame glaze; and barbecued pork with a house dandan sauce.

Those with a sweet tooth can enjoy everything from white chocolate blondie with miso cream and blood orange; and wild rice and coconut pudding with mango, puffed rice and berries; as well as apple-pie gyoza. An Asian-inspired cocktail menu is also available.

Lucky Yu is owned and operated by The Òir Group, an independent, Edinburgh-based hospitality firm that operates four of the capital’s leading restaurants, including Uncle Tiger on Bristo Place; The Captain Darling in Stockbridge; and Bodega on Leith Walk.

Commenting on Lucky Yu’s Michelin Guide success, John Howard, owner and director of The Òir Group, said:

“After more than a decade running and developing restaurants, this is really significant milestone for The Òir Group and for Lucky Yu.

“Earning our place in the Michelin Guide is a huge achievement and testament to the hard work and commitment of the entire Lucky Yu team. Over the last few years, the kitchen and menu development has been led by head chef Hearty Derlet with support from Filip Bobrowski.

“We’d also like to thank all our customers and suppliers for their continued support over the last six years.”
