EDINBURGH’S Holyrood Distillery has just been awarded 4 medals in the prestigious Scottish Gin Awards, the most medals awarded to one distillery in this year’s competition.

Holyrood Distillery released their successful Height of Arrows gin back in 2021. Drawing on the idea that whisky’s myriad of flavours rely on a handful of ingredients, Height of Arrows rejects the idea of numerous botanical additions with juniper alone celebrated. Since then the brand has also developed a range of innovative expressions including Bright, Heavy alongside cask aged gins, all of which were awarded medals at this year’s awards.

In the highly sought after taste competition, 12 Gold Medals were presented with Caorunn, Edinburgh Gin, Holyrood Distillery and Isle of Bute each collecting 2 golds each.  Holyrood Distillery and Eden Mill tied in first place for the most medals achieved with each of them taking home 4 medal positions. This included:

  • Best New Product of the Year – Height of Arrows
  • Best Old Tom Gin – Height of Arrows Heavy (Gold Medal)
  • Best Cask Gin Height of Arrows Heavy Barrel Aged Gin: Oloroso Sherry Cask (Gold Medal), Height of Arrows Funk Barrel Aged Gin: Oloroso Sherry Cask (Silver Medal), Height of Arrows Bright Barrel Aged Gin: Pedro Ximenez Cask (Bronze Medal)

This year’s Scottish Gin Award, now on its 6th annual competition and is one of the largest gin competitions in the UK. The national awards programme sees over 200 gins enter, with a rigorous judging process of 46 leading experts.

Chair of the judging panel, Adam Hardie, Partner and Head of Food and Drink at Johnston Carmichael, commented: “Do not underestimate how difficult the conditions are just now for Scottish Gin distillers across Scotland. To have medalled in the Scottish Gin Awards this year is a phenomenal achievement and these results shine a light on those businesses which have excelled under pressure and can deliver excellent products whatever the weather holds. Congratulations to all our winners across the country.”
