Scotland’s favourite bakery chain has opened its latest shop in Moray today (Thursday, June 16), partnering with one of the country’s best known retailers.

Harry Gow – which won the customer choice award for retail craft baker at the 2022 Scottish Baker of the Year Awards (SBOTY) – has opened a new retail outlet in Asda Elgin.

The new shop is the Inverness-headquartered baker’s second in Elgin, and its first opened in partnership with the retail giant.

Director David Gow said: “Opening a new shop is always exciting, and it’s been fantastic to see the signage and finishing touches being added over the last few weeks. All the months of planning and organisation are finally coming to fruition – and we’re delighted to even be giving away some freebies to the Harry Gow fans who join us in our first week!

“What makes this opening even more special is that it is our first in partnership with Asda, allowing us to bring our products to a far larger audience of shoppers than ever before.

“We’re looking forward to the opportunities this new shop will bring, and providing the people of Elgin with even more delicious cakes, breads and savoury bakes for years to come.”

The new shop opening has created 12 jobs, solidifying Harry Gow’s contribution to the local economy.

Harry Gow fans will now have easy access to the baker’s famous dream rings, marzipan apples, pineapple tarts and a whole host of breads, sweet and savoury bakes when carrying out their weekly shop.

And, for the first week, 100 customers each day will receive a free vanilla and raspberry slice – also known as the birthday cake slice – which was named best individual cake in the country at SBOTY 2022.

Lorraine Kemp, general store manager of Asda Elgin, added: “I am pleased to welcome Harry Gow to our store and it is great to be supporting local businesses within our community. My team and I wish them all the success with their opening and look forward to working with them.”

Harry Gow is a popular bakery with 18 shops spread across Inverness, the Highlands and Moray. It was crowned the first Scottish Baker of the Year in 2012, and to date is the only bakery to have scooped the top award twice – winning again in 2019.
