THE Chester Hotel has retained its two red rosettes award from the AA for its excellent cuisine.
The long-established rosette scheme celebrates successful cooking at different levels across the UK. Rosettes are awarded based on one or more visits by an AA inspector.
The Chester Hotel’s award is an accolade for head chef Chris Gray, who took over the reins in the award-winning hotel’s kitchen earlier this year.
Hotel general manager Stephen Gow says, “Chris has quickly established himself in his head chef role and as one of Aberdeen’s most talented chefs. Chris’ approach to using fresh, locally-sourced seasonal ingredients brings a freshness to our menus in both The Gallery Bar and in the IX Restaurant. The two red rosettes award is well deserved.”
The undercover inspectors tour the country trying an entire meal at the establishments and assessing it. AA Rosettes are solely awarded by AA hotel and restaurant Inspectors, and external influences from hotels, restaurants or other guides are not taken into account.
A two red rosette award is granted to excellent restaurants that aim for and achieve higher standards and better consistency. Inspectors report that a greater precision is apparent in the cooking, and there is obvious attention to the selection of quality ingredients.
Only about 10% of restaurants nationwide are of a standard that is worthy of one rosette and above.
Dining at The Chester Hotel is available daily in The Gallery Bar and from Thursday to Saturday evening in the IX restaurant where the table d’hôte menu changes frequently to reflect seasonal flavours.
At the centre of the IX Restaurant is the theatre kitchen where diners can watch the Chester chefs at work creating fine dining dishes.
