Ikea re-launches iconic rainbow cake to celebrate Pride month

IKEA has announced its rainbow cake will be back on sale from 1^st June in Aberdeen’s Plan & Order Point Café and IKEA restaurants across the UK, after making its Pride debut in 2022. The rainbow layered, limited-edition cake marks IKEA’s ongoing support of LGBTQ+ communities with 100% of profits continuing to be donated to Switchboard LGBT+ Helpline; one of the UK’s longest-running charities serving the LGBTQ+ community, who provide a safe and confidential helpline listening service on the phone, instant message, and email.

The rainbow cakes first went on sale in 2022, raising £38,000 for Switchboard LGBT+ Helpline. IKEA is committed to creating an inclusive and safe workplace and society for all and understand that open conversation is paramount to fostering this environment. Switchboard LGBT+ Helpline is the natural partner for IKEA’s LGBTQ+ commitments and this campaign, given the charity’s work offering a safe space for those in the community who need to talk.

The cake goes on sale alongside IKEA’s STORSTOMMA rainbow bag, which is now available all year round, with 100% of profits donated to LGBTQ+ charities and initiatives across the UK and Ireland.

Stephanie Fuller, CEO at Switchboard LGBT+ Helpline said: “We are delighted to have the support of IKEA once again. This year we launched our free phone number to ensure that cost would never be a barrier for anyone getting the support they need from our trained listening volunteers. The donations raised from the sale of the rainbow cake will help us ensure we can continue to fund a free to access service.”

The rainbow cake will go on sale in IKEA restaurants across the country from 1^st June for £2.95 per slice and will remain on sale until the end of month (30^th June), to coincide with the annual Pride month celebrations.
