Geoff Jacobs and Alistair McAlinden of Interpath Advisory have been appointed joint administrators of Foodstore Ltd, which traded as King Foods, following prolonged trading difficulties at the Aberdeen-based food wholesaler. King Foods supplied frozen foods, fresh fish, dry goods, and fresh and frozen meat to hotel and retail catering outlets across the North East of Scotland, as well as into Stirling and Edinburgh.
The company had been under sustained pressure from increased competition and cost price inflation, alongside wider headwinds affecting hospitality and catering businesses, leading to continued losses and mounting cash flow challenges. Trading ceased in mid-February 2026 and the company entered administration on 5 March 2026, with no prospect of a restart, resulting in 41 redundancies.

Geoff Jacobs, managing director at Interpath and joint administrator, said: “We will now commence the process of marketing the company’s business and assets, including its fitted cold storage facility in Aberdeen, its vehicle fleet and other properties.” He added that the case underlined the pressures facing operators across the food and drink supply chain, and encouraged business owners experiencing financial strain to seek advice at an early stage.
Joint administrator Alistair McAlinden said supporting affected employees would be a priority for the administration team, who will work with staff to help them access appropriate guidance and assistance following the closure. The administrators will now oversee the realisation of King Foods’ assets as part of the administration process.
