An Ullapool fish and chip shop is celebrating a treble after being crowned the best chip shop in the North West for the third year in a row.

Staff from The Seaforth collected the prize at the national Fish and Chip awards at a gala dinner at the Hilton in Glasgow on Monday evening.

It was a special moment for the eatery which prides itself on sourcing seafood sustainably, recently succeeding in a challenge to source all shellfish from within 130 miles of Ullapool harbour.

General Manager Jody Keating was on hand to collect the award, with fellow award-winning Ullapool chip shop and café Deli-ca-sea also a finalist in that category.

In total, The Seaforth beat off competition from 27 fellow finalists, stretching from the Isle of Skye to Lanark, to secure the judges’ decision.

“Hooked again,” exclaimed Jody Keating, cradling the award. “Joking aside, winning this for the third year in a row makes us so proud.

“A massive thank you to our amazing customers and team for keeping us top of the catch. I think our menu pushes us beyond what might be regarded solely as a traditional chippy, although we do that side of things, too.

“A lot of our shellfish comes straight off the harbour and our mussels bring in visitors from all over. We hand cut our potatoes and twice fry for our chips and the seafood that we serve up in our restaurant can be ordered in our chippy, too.

“It would be great if we could keep this amazing run going.”

The Seaforth is situated along the NC500 route and in the warmer months, customers can enjoy their fish and chips from the outside seating areas, watching the fishing boats land their catch.

Langoustines used in the chippy come straight from the waters of Loch Broom.
