A new food and drink venue combining Basque and Catalan cuisine with an extensive wine selection has opened in Glasgow’s Yorkhill area, offering a fresh addition to the city’s hospitality scene.
The Corner Shop, located at 45 Old Dumbarton Road in the former Grain and Grind site, has opened its doors as a 39-seat restaurant and wine bar under the co-ownership of industry veterans Conor McGeady, Matthew Mustard, and Gary McKernan.
“It is such a great location and it’s always been my goal to open somewhere so when Matthew approached me and we had the same ideas it felt like the right time,” said Conor McGeady, who manages the day-to-day operations and brings 18 years of hospitality experience from establishments including Fallachan Kitchen, The Gannet, Brett, and the wine industry.
The venue focuses on creating a relaxed atmosphere while offering sophisticated food and drink options. “It is essentially a wine bar, but we are very food focused as well. We have an extensive wine list which is fluid and will change regularly but we also have a great Basque and Catalan food offering,” McGeady explained. “However, we don’t just sell Spanish wine – it’s new world and old world, it’s conventional and natural.”
Currently operating five days a week until 10pm, the team has ambitious plans for expansion. “We wanted the venue to be a laid back but also a bustling wee place that people can relax in. We are currently open five days till 10pm but hope to be open seven days soon and in the future, we are looking to extend the license and introduce an outside area,” McGeady told DRAM.
The Corner Shop operates Wednesday to Sunday from 12pm to 10pm, and reservations are available for those looking to experience this new addition to Glasgow’s food and drink landscape.
