Aberdeen’s SOBR bar, recently listed in i News Top 30 Days Out for Adults that don’t involve drinking, has announced that it will hold its first ever Wine and Cheese Tasting event.

Taking place on Thursday 18 June, between 7-9pm, the event will see SOBR collaborate with fellow local businesses in the Granite City, namely Aberdeen Local Wine School, a local, independently owned wine education and events company, and Kathryn Figueiredo of The Gourmet Cheese Company, whose cheese shop in Rosemount has a strong following.

Aberdeen Local Wine School will bring a top-class selection of alcohol-free wines to SOBR, with Kathryn pairing them with her artisan cheeses for those attending to try.

SOBR customers are already used to a choice of rotating seasonal snacks with their drinks, with the alcohol-free bar and events space offering nibbles from local foodie businesses in and around Thistle Street, and beyond. It has already collaborated with The Gourmet Cheese Company before, having held several popular “Cheese Weeks” in the past.

“We know that many of our customers love Kathryn’s cheese, but this event is the first time that we have held an official Wine and Cheese Tasting event, a fact we are all very excited about,” said Kate Kenyon, SOBR Bar owner.

“Anna [from Aberdeen Local Wine School] is incredibly knowledgeable and has a great reputation in the city for her expertise,” continued Kate. “We have been very impressed with the variety and quality of alcohol-free wines she can bring for our guests to taste and learn about. Expect this evening to surprise your tastebuds, challenge your expectations and, ultimately, prove that wine nights don’t need alcohol to be great!

“We couldn’t have chosen two better local businesses to work with on this evening than the Aberdeen Local Wine School and The Gourmet Cheese Company, both experts in their field,” she said. “Kathryn’s delicious cheeses are also big favourites here at SOBR. Our thanks to her for the care and attentions she takes in her sourcing.”

Commenting from Aberdeen Local Wine School, a business which offers private tastings, hosts its own events, and offers professional WSET qualifications in Wine, Anna Ferrier, Owner and Chief Wine Tutorsaid: “I’m very excited for this first collaboration with the team at SOBR. There is more and more demand for alcohol-free options and it’s very exciting to work with Kate and her team – SOBR has been such a great addition to the city and I’m very honoured that they have chosen to work with me. It’s been lots of fun finding some great options for the tasting and I can’t wait to share it with everyone.”

SOBR’s Wine and Cheese Tasting event in June will be part of the bar’s six month anniversary celebrations, heating up nicely with the unexpected, but very welcome, accolade of i news listing SOBR in its Top 30 Days Out for Adults that don’t involve drinking. The bar is also through to the next round in the Great British Pub Awards, Best Community Pub 2026.

Tickets for SOBR’ s Cheese & Wine Evening are available at £42 per person. Book at this link,
