Perched atop the iconic Calton Hill with sweeping views of Edinburgh’s skyline, Café Calton has unveiled its new Autumn/Winter Evening Menu, alongside a specially curated Pre-Theatre Dining Experience, available from October.
As the evenings draw in, Café Calton transforms into a warm, atmospheric dining destination, celebrating the best of seasonal produce with a menu that blends comfort, creativity, and culinary flair.

Created by Head Chef Iain Thomson, the new evening menu features more hearty, elegant dishes perfect for colder nights – including Steak Frites – Koffman fries, garlic and parsley butter; Sea Bream – fregola and lemon butter sauce; Homemade Tagliatelle Pasta – Scottish mushrooms, 36 month aged parmesan and Crispy Chicken – hot honey and sesame.

He said: “We wanted to design a menu that offers diners a cosy, elevated experience in one of the city’s most unique settings. Autumn and winter are some of the most inspiring times of year to cook in Scotland – the flavours are bold, the ingredients are robust, and there’s a real sense of comfort that comes through in every dish.

“Whether guests are joining us for a leisurely evening meal or a quick pre-theatre bite, we want them to feel both nourished and inspired by what’s on the plate.”

In addition, Café Calton is now offering a Pre-Theatre Menu (from October 10th) ideal for those heading to performances at the nearby Playhouse, Festival Theatre, or other city venues. The 2 or 3-course early evening set menu, served from 5pm to 6:30pm, promises refined, time-conscious dining without compromise on flavour –  and the perfect start to a cultural evening in Edinburgh.

Whether you’re watching the sun set over Arthur’s Seat or enjoying a candlelit supper before a show, Café Calton offers a dining experience as memorable as its location.
