Scotland’s premier ice cream maker, Equi’s Ice Cream, has revealed the nation’s favourite flavours based on sales across more than 500 stockists, including supermarkets, independent retailers and ice cream parlours. Taking Equi’s classic and best-selling Double Cream Madagascan Vanilla out of the equation, Raspberry Ripple emerged as the most popular flavour across the majority of Scottish regions, including Greater Glasgow and the Clyde Valley.
Scottish Tablet proved another firm favourite, topping the rankings in four regions, while Pistachio Swirl claimed first place in Edinburgh. In Orkney and Shetland, tastes bucked the national trend, with Oreo Cookies ’n’ Cream and Belgian Chocolate performing strongly, underlining the distinct personalities of Scotland’s regions.
Flavours by region
The survey offers the most comprehensive snapshot yet of Scotland’s ice cream preferences, highlighting regional differences as well as national favourites. Raspberry Ripple leads in areas such as Aberdeen & Aberdeenshire, Dundee & Angus, Fife, Perthshire and the Highlands. Scottish Tablet takes the top spot in Ayrshire & Arran, Dumfries & Galloway, Loch Lomond & The Trossachs & The Forth Valley, the Scottish Borders and the Outer Hebrides. Pistachio Swirl heads the rankings in Edinburgh & The Lothians, while Sea Salt & Caramel shines in coastal areas including the Outer Hebrides and Orkney.
Oreo Cookies ’n’ Cream is the standout choice in Shetland, with Cookie Monster also featuring in the top three, showing an appetite for more playful, indulgent flavours alongside traditional favourites.
Founded in Hamilton in 1922 by Pietro Equi after he moved from Italy, Equi’s has grown from a family-run café into one of Scotland’s best-loved ice cream makers.
