Tourism, food and drink and the creative industries are among the industry sectors to have grown over the past year, according to new figures.

The overall Scottish Annual Business Statistics (SABS) 2017 show an improved performance for the majority of sectors within Scotland’s non-financial business economy.

In particular, many of Scotland’s growth sectors performed well in terms of increased approximate Gross Value Added (aGVA):

  • aGVA in the creative industries growth sector increased by 11.1%
  • aGVA in the food and drink growth sector increased by 6.3%
  • aGVA in the tourism growth sector increased by 6.0%

Commenting on the statistics, Economy Secretary Derek Mackay said:

“Scotland’s growth sectors are hugely important to our economy so it is fantastic to see them generally performing well. This includes tourism, food and drink and the creative industries which have all had an incredibly successful year.

“As industries that showcase the very best of Scotland, these are sectors that we should be rightly proud of – both in their significant contribution to our economy as well as in their impact on communities right across the country. And behind this is the drive and determination of the people who make up these industries – their hard work is key to ensuring that Scotland’s growth sectors thrive.”
