Limited Edition Marks Decade of Peated Malt Production

The Glasgow Distillery has launched its first Glasgow 1770 10 Year Old Peated Single Malt Scotch Whisky, marking a decade of peated whisky production. Limited to 550 bottles, the release is available from 10am on Friday 18 September, priced at £69.

This expression marries three ex-bourbon casks: two refill ex-bourbon barrels and one first-fill ex-bourbon barrel. It is bottled at 54% ABV, natural in colour, and non-chill filtered.

Peated single malt production at The Glasgow Distillery began in 2016, a year after its core unpeated programme was established in 2015. Peated production now accounts for five months of operations annually, and this 10 Year Old is the first whisky from those original 2016 runs.

The distillery chose ex-bourbon cask maturation to highlight the spirit’s character and its time in cask, aiming for an “honest, spirit-forward profile.”

Sebastian Bunford-Jones, head of sales and marketing at The Glasgow Distillery, noted the significance: “Reaching ten years with our peated single malt feels like a really significant moment for us. Peated production has become an important part of what we do at The Glasgow Distillery, so for this release we wanted to keep things deliberately simple and let the spirit speak for itself.”

Bunford-Jones added: “Ex-bourbon cask maturation has given us a whisky that really shows how our peated spirit has developed over a decade, while retaining the character we’ve been building since those first runs in 2016.” He further commented on the tasting experience: “Expect notes of roasted pineapple, soft smoke, gentle vanilla, waxy lemon and dried orange peel. With only 550 bottles, it’s a small release, but an important one for the distillery.”

The whisky is described by the distillery as combining delicate bonfire smoke with honeyed sweetness, tropical fruit, citrus, a gentle waxy texture, and lingering oak spice, resulting in a refined, elegant dram with notable maturity.

The Glasgow 1770 10 Year Old Peated Single Malt Scotch Whisky will be presented in a gift carton. It will be available via The Glasgow Distillery’s website and selected UK retailers, with availability in Germany and Finland later this year.
