A new limited-edition whisky inspired by the rituals of a day on the golf course invites drinkers to experience the spirit of St Andrews in a different way.
‘The Dunvegan’ is the latest release in the Kingsbarns Distillery Golf Series, blending the character of a Lowland single malt with the heritage and atmosphere of one of the world’s most iconic golfing destinations.
Created by Wemyss Family Spirits, the family-owned business behind Kingsbarns Distillery, the whisky has been developed in collaboration with the Dunvegan Hotel, a venue woven into the fabric of the town’s golfing culture.
Peter Holroyd, Distillery Manager at Kingsbarns Distillery, said: “This release is about more than whisky, it is about capturing a feeling. That moment at the end of a round when people come together to reflect on the day and enjoy something well-earned.
“There is a natural connection between golf and whisky, both shaped by patience, craft and a strong sense of tradition. Working with a destination like the Dunvegan Hotel allows us to bring that experience to life in a unique way.”
Often referred to as the ‘19th hole’ of St Andrews, the Dunvegan Hotel has welcomed generations of golfers through its doors, from first-time visitors to some of the biggest names in the sport and Hollywood, such as Arnold Palmer, Tiger Woods, Clint Eastwood and Bill Murray.
Lucy Fotheringham of the Dunvegan Hotel said: “People come here from all over the world to be part of something special. It is not just about the golf, it is about the atmosphere, the stories and the connections made afterwards.
“This whisky reflects that spirit perfectly. It captures the character of St Andrews and the role the Dunvegan Hotel has played in those post-round moments for so many years.”
Wholly matured in a sherry cask, the flavour profile reflects Kingsbarns’ signature style, light, fruity and elegant, with a touch of indulgence.
On the nose, there are notes of treacle cake, toffee and baked apricot tart, lifted by a hint of candied orange zest.
The palate delivers a lively balance of sweet and sharp, with pineapple sweets and pickled ginger creating a bright, layered character.
A warm finish of pastry and baking spices lingers, offering a satisfying close that mirrors the comforting end to a day on the course.
Steve Johnston of the PGA and renowned Scottish golf influencer, said: “The Kingsbarns distillery was born from a caddy’s insight, bringing the craft of malt whisky to the home of golf. This iconic partnership celebrates one of the game’s most storied traditions, with a single cask release that captures both rarity and a true sense of place.
“It’s a whisky shaped by its surroundings, designed to be savoured and shared after a round, in the company of those who appreciate the game and its rituals.”
