Springkell House, a luxury country house based in Dumfries & Galloway in the Scottish lowlands, has secured funding from Barclays to help with the redevelopment and expansion of the venue’s hotel facilities.

The £650,000 funding package will allow the owners to redevelop the quadrangle annex, adding an additional six en suite bedrooms and increasing capacity to 26 guest rooms.

Situated near Gretna Green, the venue hosts around 50 weddings each year as well as private parties, exclusive use events, and offers dinner, bed & breakfast.

Springkell has been owned by the Johnson-Ferguson family since 1894, having been passed to Hon. Lady Johnson-Ferguson in 1953 and now to her great grandson James, who has owned the house since 2009.

The property was re-opened for accommodation and events in 2013 following a substantial refurbishment programme and the owners are now looking to build on its success with further expansion.

James Johnson-Ferguson, owner of Springkell House, commented: “Since we started offering private events we’ve seen the venue grow in popularity and we now host lots of weddings throughout the year. Expansion is an important next step for the business and it’s great to have Barclays’ support in increasing the current capacity and facilities for overnight guests.”

Stuart Brown, Head of SME Scotland at Barclays, said: “Springkell’s owners have a clear vision for the future and we are pleased to be able to support them with their expansion and redevelopment plans. The hospitality sector in Scotland is buoyant and we are working with a growing number of businesses like Springkell to achieve their goals.”

“We introduced the venue owners to Business Manager Tom Every who was able to rapidly assess the strengths of the business and understand its offering, identifying the products and solutions best suited to Springkell’s growth plans.”
