MasterChef winner Jamie Scott launches The Cove Bar

Jamie Scott

MASTERCHEF winner Jamie Scott and his wife Kelly have revamped their eaterie experience in Newport – weeks after collecting a third AA Rosette win.

Jamie, crowned the BBC MasterChef Professionals winner in 2014, and Kelly were recently awarded the coveted AA Rosette again for the exceptional culinary offering at the Newport Restaurant in Fife.

Now on the back of that latest success and the opening of Sandbanks Brasserie in Broughty Ferry, Dundee, in May, the couple are enticing diners to sample their signature style at The Cove Bar.

The Cove Bar, which offers a diverse and relaxed style of food from a bespoke bar menu, was formerly known as The Newport Bar.

It is situated next door to the award-winning Newport Restaurant in a stunning riverside location on the banks of the River Tay.

With the popular Shipwrecked Seafood Truck now anchored for winter, The Cove will offer visitors the chance to sample Jamie’s relaxed dining offerings.

A homemade burger, a duck confit cheese toastie, salt & pepper squid and triple-cooked chips headline the exclusive menu.

Decked out in furnishings made from reclaimed whisky barrels and reclaimed railway lines, the unique dining experience sees Jamie and Kelly diversify their portfolio of food outlets in Tayside and Fife.

Jamie, originally from Arbroath in Angus, said: “The Cove Bar will be open to all and will offer customers to drop in to sample a ‘Taste of Newport’ within a stunning location.

“We have re-crafted the food offerings to give The Cove Bar its own bespoke menu that stays true to the signature style people have come to expect from our brand.

“We’re sure The Cove Bar will prove popular and offer customers a warm, relaxed and snug environment to enjoy some delicious food and drink at a stunning waterside location.”

In keeping with the Scott signature style, menu offerings at The Cove Bar are made from scratch and use elements of their food across all their ventures.

The Newport Bakery provides the pastries, breads and burger buns and every element of the casual dining experience is affordable and crafted in-house.

It also stays true to the couple’s strong zero-waste and reduced food miles values.

Kelly added: “As with everything we do, we are staying true to our principles with The Cove Bar, backed by an exceptionally talented team.

“Everything we offer is of the highest quality and we work hard to source the finest hand-picked local ingredients to support seasonal and sustainable food.

“All the meat trim from the restaurant and bakery helps to produce our burger mix and all the vegetable trim goes into our own kimchi. All bread waste is repurposed to make our miso.”

The couple don’t believe in standing still.

The Newport Restaurant, as their first venture and the hub of everything they do.

And it is continuing its success story after being named AA Restaurant of the Year in 2018-19 and having recently claimed a 3rd AA Rosette.

The Cove Bar is now open for business and will serve up from 10am-late, Thursday to Sunday.

Coffees and pastries from The Newport Bakery will be available all day, with the new bar menu on offer from 12-8pm.
