Highland distillery Tomatin has added another award to its collection after its Legacy single malt was announced as a Trophy winner at this year’s International Wine and Spirits Competition (IWSC).

After being awarded 98 points and a Gold Outstanding award earlier this year during initial judging, Legacy was confirmed as receiving an IWSC Trophy for ‘no age statement single malt Scotch’ this month.

It is one of only four IWSC Trophies awarded to Scotch single malts this year.

Trophies are presented to those achieving an exceptional level of craftsmanship, demonstrating exceptional liquid quality, balance and complexity beyond the standard gold or silver medals, as decided by a panel of esteemed judges from the industry.

Commenting on Legacy, judges said it had “succulent” aromas of lychee, vanilla and cinnamon, and a “fabulously luscious flavour profile with a heavenly finish”.

The IWSC is one of the most respected competitions in the global spirits industry, honouring the best producers from around the world.

Stephen Bremner, Managing Director of Tomatin Distillery, said: “Legacy tells a story from our founding era, and it celebrates the heart of everything we do at Tomatin, honouring our people and the important role they have played for centuries.

“We have worked incredibly hard on our product range over the years and continue to commit ourselves to crafting the very best-tasting Highland whisky, so it’s brilliant to be recognised in this way by IWSC.”

Legacy, a malt whisky matured in a combination of Bourbon barrels and Virgin Oak casks, honours the heritage of Tomatin.

When the distillery was established in 1897, the isolated and idyllic setting was almost perfect. However, the local inhabitants were scattered shepherds and cattle drovers, and so began a project to hire a workforce and build homes on the site to accommodate them.

This legacy has continued and Tomatin is one of the few distilleries to provide a home for its craftspeople to this day.

The non-peaty Scotch boasts aromas of vanilla bean, white chocolate and cinnamon (43% ABV, RRP £36.50).
