In a recent turn of events for the American-themed restaurant chain TGI Fridays, nearly all Scottish locations have been spared from closure, offering a glimmer of hope for the brand’s presence north of the border.

This comes as part of a larger rescue deal that has seen the acquisition of 51 out of 87 UK restaurants by private equity firms Breal Capital and Calveton UK.

Food enthusiasts and casual diners in Scotland can breathe a sigh of relief as nearly all eight TGI Fridays restaurants in the country will continue to operate.

These locations include:

  • Aberdeen Union Square
  • Aberdeen Beach
  • Braehead
  • Glasgow Fort
  • Glasgow (Buchanan Street)
  • Fort Kinnaird
  • Silverburn

This preservation of Scottish sites is particularly noteworthy given the challenging circumstances faced by the hospitality industry in recent years.

Wider Impact

While the news is positive for Scotland, the broader picture for TGI Fridays in the UK is more somber. The rescue deal has resulted in the immediate closure of 35 restaurants across the country, leading to over 1,000 job losses.

However, the transaction has managed to save nearly 2,400 jobs overall.

For Scottish food and drink enthusiasts, the continuation of TGI Fridays means that the brand’s signature American-style cuisine and cocktails will remain accessible in key locations across the country.

As the hospitality sector continues to navigate challenging times, the survival of these restaurants offers a reassuring sign for the industry’s resilience in Scotland.
