With its hosting of the KFE On a Mission Dinner nearing on Wednesday 25 March, an event which raises funds for The Fisherman’s Mission, The Crab & Lobster Fish Shack in South Queensferry, has announced that it plans to continue helping raise money for another charity close to its heart, Forth One’s Cash for Kids.

Looking ahead to National Fish & Chip Day, Friday 5 June, father & son owners and chefs, Jack & Bryan Coghill, plan to take part in an ambitious north, south, east and west “Flying Fish Tour of Scotland”, which will see them prepare fish & chips as fast as they can at other fish & chip businesses throughout the country.

Starting off in Edinburgh, they’ll head north to Shetland, then over to the West of Scotland, and down to Dumfries & Galloway. They will then travel back to The Crab & Lobster Fish Shack in South Queensferry for a celebration with staff, supporters, and customers. Lots of special offers and happenings will take place at the restaurant all day.

The duo will ask for sponsorship donations through the Forth One Cash for Kids portal, which will include details of their challenge soon. The Crab & Lobster Fish Shack is the current 2025/26 Forth One Restaurant of the Year.

“Giving back is important to us, and we’ve been supporting Cash for Kids since we opened, donating over £2.5k before Christmas,” said Bryan Coghill. “We thought that National Fish & Chip Day would be the ideal day to do something ambitious, to grab the headlines, as that is the National Day when we all celebrate what has become our favourite dish.”

“We have called upon all our friends in the industry to help us put this challenge together, mapping out which fish and chip businesses are best for us to travel to. We want to travel to all four corners of the country, It will be a very early start, but well worth it!” continued Bryan.

Regarding the forthcoming KFE On a Mission Dinner, he said: “We are really honoured to have been asked to host this big night for our industry. We can’t wait to welcome our VIP guests to Scotland, where they can try our finest fish and seafood!”

“There is always something new to learn from one another, no matter how experienced we are.”

Having in the past raised up to £14.5k, the KFE On a Mission Dinner is the culmination of a three day event. Ten of the nation’s finest fish & chip operators offer hands on training sessions to others looking to boost their skills across the industry, in return for the participants making a donation to the charity.

When all the training and collaboration is done, everyone involved looks forward to sitting down and enjoying a meal together, followed by a fabulous charity auction which raises more money for the charity. Prizes, donated from fish & chip suppliers all over the country, include a tonne of batter, a Bold batter mixer, cases of fish, and gift vouchers.

A national charity that supports fishermen and their families, The Fishermen’s Mission has been looking after the health and well-being of fishermen for over 140 years, providing practical, financial and emotional support, including a 24/7 emergency service to assist with accidents or illness at sea.

This year’s “KFE On a Mission” event has added significance as 2026 marks organiser KFE’s 30 year anniversary as a leading supplier of premier frying equipment.

Tanya Henderson, Managing Director at KFE, added: “We are delighted to end our KFE On a Mission with a fundraising dinner at The Crab & Lobster Fish Shack. It’s a standout restaurant doing something different while staying true to great fish and chips. It is the perfect place for everyone to unwind after the three-day event, share their experiences and support a charity that means so much to our industry. A big thank you to the team at The Crab & Lobster Fish Shack for hosting us.”

Commenting from Cash for Kids, Alex Wilson, Corporate Fundraising Executive, said: “We’d like to thank The Crab & Lobster Fish Shack for their continuing support of Cash for Kids. So far, in only eight months of opening, and with support from the customers at their sister restaurant, Jack ‘O’ Bryan’s, they’ve managed to make regular donations to us which have really helped. This Flying Fish Tour, across Scotland, is absolutely fantastic, and will put them, and National Fish & Chip Day in the spotlight, as well as Cash for Kids. We are sure that Radio Forth listeners, together with Jack and Bryan’s loyal customers and suppliers, will all be keen to get behind this and support them in this ambitious quest.”
