Ian Macleod Distillers has launched a limited-edition Glengoyne Highland Single Malt Single Cask exclusively at Glasgow Airport, celebrating the hub’s 60th anniversary in partnership with global travel retailer Avolta.

Released as part of The Whisky Collective, Avolta’s annual whisky festival across its World Duty Free stores, the Glengoyne Single Cask #1789 is limited to just 248 bottles, with an RRP of £119, making it a highly collectable release for travellers and whisky enthusiasts alike.

The expression has been matured in a 12-year-old first-fill bourbon barrel and bottled at a natural cask strength of 59% ABV. Un-chill-filtered and natural in colour, it delivers a well-rounded profile, with notes of chocolate chip oat cookies, malt, banana and vanilla on the nose. On the palate, it is described as light, fruity and balanced, finishing with sweet fruits, honey-coated cereal and a citrus lift.

Designed to honour both the airport and the city, the bottle features a Glasgow skyline-inspired label incorporating iconic landmarks including the Duke of Wellington statue, the SEC Armadillo and Glengoyne Distillery itself.

Glengoyne Distillery, located just 15 miles north of Glasgow, is the southernmost Highland distillery and is widely regarded as one of Scotland’s most picturesque. Established in 1833, it is known for producing an unpeated, fruity spirit using some of the slowest stills in Scotland. The distillery has also recently ranked within the top 10% of global destinations on TripAdvisor.

Aisha Dad, Senior Liquor Manager UK at Avolta, said: “Glasgow Airport’s 60th anniversary is a meaningful moment to celebrate with a whisky that is rooted in Scotland and connected to the city. This exclusive Glengoyne Single Cask reflects what we aim to bring to travellers through World Duty Free and The Whisky Collective; distinctive products, strong local relevance and memorable discoveries that can only be found here. We are pleased to partner with Ian Macleod Distillers on this limited release, offering whisky enthusiasts something special at Glasgow Airport.”

Craig Norton, Head of Retail and Development at AGS Airports, added: “We’re incredibly proud to bring this exclusive Glengoyne Single Cask to our customers as part of Glasgow Airport’s 60th anniversary celebrations. With its strong connection to the city and limited availability, it’s a fantastic addition to our shelves at World Duty Free and a real highlight of The Whisky Collective. We’re confident both collectors and whisky lovers alike will appreciate discovering something truly unique before they fly.”

William Ovens, Head of Global Travel Retail at Ian Macleod Distillers, said: “We are thrilled to showcase our single malt expertise with the introduction of this unique whisky to World Duty Free and its customers. This single cask of only 248 bottles will be an exclusive experience for the lucky few. It celebrates the historical ties between Glengoyne and the city of Glasgow and is a valuable addition to The Whisky Collective festival.”

The Glengoyne Highland Single Cask #1789 is available exclusively from World Duty Free at Glasgow Airport for a limited time.
