The Crab & Lobster Fish Shack in South Queensferry has been named a finalist in the Fish & Chip Restaurant of the Year category at the sixth Scottish Restaurant Awards 2026.

Run by Oceanic, the Scottish Restaurant Awards celebrate culinary businesses across the country, with categories spanning steak, Spanish and Mediterranean, grill, hotel restaurants and more.

The Crab & Lobster Fish Shack, which is operated by Oceanic, is one of nine businesses from across Scotland to reach the final in its category. The restaurant will now head to the Grand Final at Glasgow’s DoubleTree by Hilton in October.

Restaurant owner Bryan Coghill said the recognition marked an encouraging beginning to the business’s award-season ambitions.

“This is the perfect start to the award seasons, which we always view as an opportunity to showcase Scotland’s finest food and seafood, which we respect every day in our busy open-galley kitchen,” he said.

“After only opening last June, it is fantastic to be included in what is a list of high-quality Scottish fish and chip restaurants. Fish and chips is still the nation’s favourite, and no wonder – who doesn’t enjoy tucking into fresh, lightly battered haddock and fluffy golden chips?”

The restaurant prides itself on preparing its food fresh each day, with fish that is never frozen and chips made on the premises.

“Our fish is never frozen, and our chips are made fresh on the premises every day,” added Bryan.

The South Queensferry venue is also seeking public support in the Scottish Fish & Chip Awards, which recognise fish and chip businesses across takeaways, mobile operators and restaurants.

Meanwhile, the team is preparing to submit an entry for the National Fish & Chip Awards, which will take place in London next February. The Crab & Lobster Fish Shack was named runner-up in the Best Newcomer category at last year’s awards.

Alongside its award activity, the restaurant is approaching the final weeks of its current Cash for Kids fundraising campaign. Customers have been invited to donate an “invisible fish supper” by scanning a QR code displayed on table leaflets, with the campaign set to close on 31 August.

“We would like to thank everybody who’s contributed to this fundraiser,” said Bryan. “We’re going to end this current campaign on the 31st of August. There’s still time to buy an invisible fish supper if you haven’t already done so. Any more donations we can gather will be very gratefully received.”

Cash for Kids has been the restaurant’s designated charity since it opened. The business will soon turn its attention to the Mission Christmas appeal, while plans are also under way for a more ambitious fundraising initiative next year.

“Cash for Kids has been our designated charity since we opened,” Bryan added. “We will soon be turning our attention to what can be done for the Mission Christmas appeal, and have something far more ambitious planned for next year which we hope will continue to bring the money in for this worthy cause.”
