OONI, the world’s number one pizza oven company, has announced it has become a Certified B Corporation, in recognition of the business being a force for good.

Certified B Corporations, or B Corps, are companies verified by the non-profit B Lab to meet high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability.

Ooni has committed to the B Corp framework as they strive to help people around the world make great pizza at home in a way that has a positive impact on the planet and its people.

Ooni is also an official partner of 1% for the Planet, and contributes 1% of annual global turnover to support social and environmental causes. As part of the continuing partnership with Eden Reforestation Projects, Ooni has planted over 4 million trees around the world.

Known for bringing portable pizza ovens to back gardens all over the world, Ooni was founded by husband-and-wife team Kristian Tapaninaho and Darina Garland in 2012. The Scottish-based company created and continues to lead a new category when it launched the world’s first portable pizza oven with the goal being to help people make truly great pizza at home.

Darina Garland, co-CEO and co-Founder of Ooni, said: “This is huge for Ooni and has been an ambition of ours for a long time, so we’re delighted to have been certified as a B Corp.

“It was an incredibly thorough process that has resulted in best practice across the entirety of the business. These policies and practices are now locked into the way we work at Ooni which is a massive step on our path to becoming a regenerative business.”

The B Corp community spans 89 countries, 159 industries, over 500,000 workers, with over 6,200 B Corp certified businesses across the world. There are 43 companies in Scotland with B Corp certification.

All businesses within the community go through the rigorous B Impact Assessment, which contains over 200 questions across the five areas of governance, workers, customers, community and environment.

Ooni will now look to build on its B Corp certification to further develop the passion held within the business to improve the planet.

The team will use the framework to strive for continuous development and even further improvement when it recertifies in 2026.

B Corp Certification means that a company has been verified as meeting B Lab’s high  standards for social and environmental impact, that it has made a legal commitment to  stakeholder governance and that it is demonstrating accountability and transparency by disclosing this record of performance in a public B Corp profile.

B Lab is the nonprofit network transforming the global economy to benefit all people, communities, and the planet. B Lab creates standards, policies, tools, and programs that shift the behaviour, culture, and structure of capitalism.
