Release marks golf’s most prestigious tournament at Royal Troon this July

Ben Lomond Gin, the official Gin of The Open, has unveiled a limited-edition craft gin to mark The 152nd Open at Royal Troon this summer.

The Open 2024 Special Edition (43% ABV) has been released in homage to the prestigious golf tournament and includes native botanicals hand-picked directly from Royal Troon. The links course is set to host the world’s best players who’ll use their skill, guile and perseverance to master the wild and natural style of the course, which closely mirrors Ben Lomond Gin’s adventurous spirit.

Launched in 2019, Ben Lomond Gin has established a reputation as one of Scotland’s most exciting gins, renowned for its bold and versatile flavour profiles, and was recently awarded a Double Gold for its Original Scottish Gin at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, one of the oldest and most prestigious spirits competitions in the world.

The brand was named the first Official Gin of the Open in 2023, releasing a limited-edition gin to celebrate The 151st Open Championship at Royal Liverpool.

This year, The Open 2024 Special Edition’s base is centred around the core Ben Lomond London Dry, utilising six of the 11 key botanicals to create a foundation that carries the gin’s signature taste. This has been elevated with a range of botanicals hand-selected from Royal Troon itself: tansy herb, elderberries and blackberry leaves

This natural bouquet from botanicals native to the course, complements the base pine and light spice notes of core Ben Lomond, enhancing the juniper presence with notes of zesty citrus and parma violets, leaving a peppery and floral finish.

The gin is as bold and wild as the course itself and is the perfect spirit for toasting the world-renowned event. It is exclusively available as a limited-edition souvenir set which includes a 70cl bottle of gin and two Ben Lomond Gin branded glasses, retailing for £45.

John Grieveson, Chief Marketing Officer of Ben Lomond Gin owner Loch Lomond Group, said: “Our Open 2024 Special Edition reflects Ben Lomond Gin’s adventurous spirit and deep connection to the natural beauty of Scotland, with a unique blend of botanicals native to the Troon area.

“Each bottle is a tribute to the rugged landscapes that inspire us, offering gin enthusiasts and golf fans alike a unique taste of the wild and wonderful essence of Troon.

“We’re excited to be The Official Gin for a second year as The Open returns to Scottish soil and we look forward to raising a glass to the champion golfers taking part at Royal Troon this summer.”

The Open is the oldest golf tournament in the world and the sport’s original championship, which brings together professional players from across the globe to compete for the coveted Claret Jug.

Returning to Scotland this year, The 152nd Open will be held from 14-21 July 2024 at Royal Troon in Ayrshire. Founded in 1878, Royal Troon is renowned as one of the world’s greatest links courses, and last hosted The Open in 2016.

The Open Special Edition Gift Set is available to purchase from Ben Lomond Gin directly, online with various specialist whisky retailers, and at the Ben Lomond Gin stand at The 152nd Open at Royal Troon from 14-21 July 2024.
