AGRICULTURAL market leader Cefetra has received two accreditations for its progress on sustainability as it steps up efforts to increase environmentally friendly agricultural practices.

Cefetra, a group of leading companies and brands in the animal nutrition and food and drink ingredient industries, has achieved internationally recognised standard for environmental management systems ISO 14001 while having its gold status renewed by EcoVadis, the leading solution for monitoring sustainability in global supply chains.

ISO 14001 is issued to organisations which ensure they are taking proactive measures to minimise their environmental footprint, comply with relevant legal requirements and achieve green objectives. The framework encompasses meeting resource usage levels and waste management to monitoring environmental performance and involving stakeholders in ecological commitments.

The company has also recently maintained gold accreditation status from international sustainability accreditation company EcoVadis. First presented in December 2022, the EcoVadis Gold Medal places Cefetra in the top 5% of companies assessed for its commitment to continuously working to improve sustainability following assessment of its environmental, social, and ethical performance.

Commercial, Quality and Health & Safety & Sustainability Manager Sarah Bell said: “We are pleased to see Cefetra’s drive to reduce its environmental impact be recognised with a growing number of accreditations, which reflects the increased work by the team.

“As a supplier to leading brands in the animal nutrition and food and drink sector, we take seriously our responsibilities around providing ethical and sustainable products and services to meet their standards, while working with a range of farmers and producers who want to play their part.

“We are proud to help our suppliers and customers to achieve their goals and will continue to play a growing role setting new standards in agriculture across all our sites.”

The accreditations success comes after the launch of the innovative Cefetra Ecosystem Services programme, which be a bridge between animal nutrition and food and drink customers tasked with sourcing sustainable suppliers and farmers wanting financial returns on sustainable practices.

Launched in November, Cefetra Ecosystem Services is the first initiative to set high standards for climate positive supply chains and reward growers for adopting sustainable farming practices.

Through practical advice backed with documented sustainability standards, Cefetra is applying established methodologies to build trust from farmers and customers with a carbon programme compliant backed by Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) guidance, guaranteeing credibility.

Partnering with agronomy firm Soil Capital, Cefetra Ecosystem Services offers products and services based on each farm’s data plus courses of action. Consumers receive produce sustainable credentials, strengthening the appeal of participating farmers’ supplies to meet buyer ESG goals.

Cefetra holds a range of other accreditations on sustainability, including endorsement from the Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit (SMETA), a Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) certification for trading as a sustainably sourced palm kernel expeller and the Certified Responsible Soya (CRS) standard for supply sustainable soya.
