A new bar, Lucky Penny, is set to open in the heart of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this August.

Located at 19-20 Teviot Place, the bar will feature some of the cityā€™s best food vendors, including Albyā€™s, Spitaki, Wing Theory, and more, offering daytime dining options.

Lucky Penny will serve a variety of beverages, including frozen cocktails, Kegronis, and Gilded Balloonā€™s own beer.

The bar, situated in the former Saboteur venue, will be run in partnership with local brewery Newbarns, offering fresh pints and cocktails. Gilded Balloon, a family-run business by mother-daughter duo Katy and Karen Koren, named the bar after Katyā€™s daughter, Penny.

Lucky Penny will operate from July 31st to August 26th, welcoming Fringe fans, acts, and industry professionals.

Lucky Penny is open seven days a week from 12 p.m. to late, and throughout August, it will host different food pop-ups.

Vendors include Albyā€™s Big Hot Bangers, Big Dip, Spitaki, Wing Theory, Lazeez, Banh Mi Brothers, and Pulp Friction. Award-winning pies from Jarvis Pickle will also be available.

Additionally, Newbarns Brewery will introduce a special Gilded Balloon-themed IPA, “Hiya Pals,” available at Lucky Penny, the Leith Newbarns taproom, and other Gilded Balloon venues.

Gilded Balloon collaborates with Scottish brands such as Tennentā€™s Lager, Newbarns, and Leith Spirits to provide a range of beverages across all their Fringe bars.

Katy and Karen Koren, Artistic Directors of Gilded Balloon, said: ā€œItā€™s so exciting to reveal our incredible line-up of vendors who will be popping up at Lucky Penny and bringing some of Edinburghā€™s very best food to Fringe.

“From fresh hot sandwiches from Albyā€™s to authentic Greek food from Spitaki, Pulp Frictionā€™s frozen cocktails and even Negronis on tap, Lucky Penny will be the spot to chill out and grab a bite of some of the cityā€™s most delicious food before taking in lots of Fringe shows!

ā€œWeā€™re looking forward to throwing open the doors to Lucky Penny and welcoming Fringe fans, performers and the Fringe community and industry to the brand new space for some ā€˜Hiya Palsā€™ pints in the sun, fresh out of the tap from our pals at Newbarns.ā€

Emma McIntosh, Director of Newbarns Brewery, said: “As a local Leith brewery, working with a renowned local Edinburgh Fringe venue such as Gilded Balloon made perfect sense.

“We’ve created our bespoke ‘Hiya Pals’ IPA in collaboration with Gilded Balloon, available exclusively throughout the Festival in our brand new perfectly pink cans.

“We hope Newbarns fans will pop along to the Lucky Penny to sip on some freshly brewed pints this August!”
