Aberdeen businesswoman Jeanette Forbes is poised to open Mediterranean, her latest venture on Thistle Street, this Tuesday. Designed to be an attraction during events like Offshore Europe and the Tall Ship Races, this new restaurant is a testament to her dedication.

Known for her IT company PCL Group and luxury wine bar Grape & Grain, Jeanette was initially hesitant about taking on an empty shop across the road. However, inspired by her bar manager Mehdi Belkouri’s enthusiasm, she soon found herself negotiating to transform the former Gallery Heinzel into Mediterranean.

“It felt daunting at first, but now I can say it was the best decision I’ve ever made,” Jeanette states. Each detail has been meticulously selected to ensure a unique dining experience that transports guests to the Mediterranean.

A Mediterranean Escape in Aberdeen

From the moment guests enter Mediterranean, they are greeted by Moroccan tiles, lemon trees, and flowers hanging from the ceiling, evoking a quaint seaside eatery. The menu features dishes from over 25 countries, including Italian arancini, Turkish dolma, and Greek yoghurt and honey cheesecake, all overseen by head chef Gary Owens, boasting over 30 years of experience.

Jeanette plans themed nights every six to eight weeks, focusing on different Mediterranean cuisines. She describes the dining style as casual yet sophisticated, offering dishes not typically found in Aberdeen.

Investing in Aberdeen’s Community

“For me, it’s about giving back to Aberdeen,” Jeanette emphasizes. Despite challenges in the hospitality industry, she believes that quality and service will keep Mediterranean thriving.

Located in Thistle Street, Aberdeen’s “most independent” street, Mediterranean sits among high-end boutiques, cosy cafes, and unique cake shops. Jeanette proudly calls it “a little Chelsea” and believes it’s the perfect spot for her new venture.
