Perth and Kinross is gearing up for foodie fun this summer as a stellar line-up of hospitality and food and drink businesses have signed up to get involved in Perthshire Eat Week which kicks off this Friday.

The new 10-day festival will see venues including Praveen Kumar’s Tabla Restaurant, The Giddy Goose, St John’s Bar and Restaurant, Slainte, Koku Shi in Perth, and The Singing Kettle in Alyth and Thyme Deli Bistro at Errichel participate.

The event takes place from Friday 30 August to Sunday 8 September and is designed to celebrate the region’s larder, aiming to further promote the area’s growing food scene.

Customers can tuck into top deals and discounts such as Provender Brown Delicatessen’s offer where they will receive free Allan’s Chilli oatcakes or Peter’s Yard crackers when they spend £25 on cheese from the cabinet.

For those who love a caffeine hit to start the day you can grab a coffee and doughnut for £5 from Rascals Cafe or a coffee or tea with a scone from 3G at The Eatrium.

Blend Coffee Lounge which has eight other establishments across Scotland will also be offering coffee or tea with a traybake, pastry or scone for a fiver, too.

The Singing Kettle

More than 20 venues have already signed up for the initiative which will feature a range of deals from £5 to £30 across a multitude of businesses. To get access to the deals, diners need to sign up for a free Perthshire Eat Week pass by visiting perthshire.eat-week.co.uk.

Organised in partnership with local marketing and events firm, M.ad Agency, and Perth and Kinross Council, the festival is designed to encourage the public to try new places while benefitting from specific affordable deals.

Venues from restaurants to bakeries, cafes, pubs, delis and more will create bespoke menus and offer fixed-price options for the occasion.

The Perth and Kinross area is known for its farming, distilling and thriving producer offering, and is home to a strong collective of supportive food and drink firms.

It is home to some of the top restaurants and distilleries in the UK such as two-Michelin starred The Glenturret Lalique in Hosh and Aberfeldy Dewar’s Distillery in Aberfeldy.

Alice Christison, director of M.ad Agency, said: “We are delighted to be returning to the Perth area for Eat Week after a very successful Cocktail Week just a few months ago.

“This time, we’ve extended the campaign to incorporate the Perth and Kinross area, and it has been great to get so many businesses getting involved with some money saving deals.

“We’re passionate about the hospitality trade and want to help encourage more footfall into the city centre, but also inspire people to get out and explore the impressive region.

“Food and drink is a huge part of the area and there’s so much on offer.”

Praveen Kumar, owner of Tabla

Praveen Kumar, owner of Tabla Restaurant is looking forward to being involved in the inaugural event.

His Indian restaurant, which he launched in 2009 with his wife Swarna, will be serving up a delicious deal of any two main meals for £20.

The eatery is famed for its Kodi Koora, a recipe by Praveen’s grandmother, and Indo-Scottish haggis Bonda.

He said: “I am delighted to be involved in Perthshire Eat Week showcasing the fantastic Perthshire larder. At Tabla we are passionate about supporting our local farmers and producers, blending fresh local produce with aromatic spices from our own farms in India.”

Venue recruitment is underway and those looking to register their interest can email hello@eat-week.co.uk for more information.

The event is free for businesses to take part in and is supported by regional food group, Great Perthshire.
