Historic Clydesdale Bank building transformed into two distinct dining destinations.

The Ivy Glasgow has offered an initial glimpse inside its new location at St Vincent Place, ahead of its scheduled opening on Tuesday, 20 October. The former Clydesdale Bank at 30–40 St Vincent Place has undergone a significant transformation, bringing together The Ivy Collection’s established style with The Ivy Asia, which is making its debut in Scotland. Dating back to the 1870s, the Grade A-listed Venetian Renaissance-style building was originally designed by architect John Burnet Senior, with sculptures created by John and William Mossman and Charles Grassby.

The building’s architectural heritage has been preserved, featuring high ceilings, intricate detailing, and a prominent glass dome. Inside, the former banking hall now combines its historic grandeur with the distinct aesthetics of The Ivy, incorporating new interiors, bespoke artwork, and detailed designs to create two unique spaces.

Adam Ellis, an art consultant and interior collaborator for The Ivy Collection, led the creative vision for the interiors, developing wallpapers, designs, and artwork that complement the building’s character while introducing each restaurant’s visual identity. The Ivy Glasgow Brasserie features the glass dome as a central element, illuminating the dining room with natural light. Beneath the dome, a statement tree rises above a central bar, surrounded by architectural columns, rich upholstery, and tables.

The space includes bespoke artwork and design details intended to blend contemporary style with the historic setting. Adjacent to the Brasserie, The Ivy Asia Glasgow presents a contrasting environment with vibrant colours and a theatrical atmosphere. It features jade-coloured agate flooring that glows, complemented by gilded ceilings. The interiors are further enhanced with bamboo-inspired details, cherry blossom trees, decorative lanterns, and velvet furnishings. During the transformation, a historic clock from the bank’s original telling room was restored and rehung above the reception.

The clock, made in Ayr in 1837, revealed two folded papers hidden within its wooden base, including a handwritten note stating “Made in Ayr for the Town Buildings.” Both the clock and the papers will be displayed in the revitalised building. Olivia Wong, Senior General Manager at The Ivy Glasgow, commented on the move, stating: “Moving to St Vincent Place is an exciting new chapter for The Ivy Glasgow. The building has so much character, and we wanted to create a setting that makes the most of its original features while bringing in the distinctive interiors and artwork that guests expect from The Ivy Collection and The Ivy Asia.”

Ms Wong added: “From the breathtaking glass dome of The Ivy Glasgow Brasserie to the vibrant, theatrical interiors of The Ivy Asia, every detail has been considered to create a memorable experience from the moment guests step through the doors.”

She also noted: “We’re looking forward to welcoming guests into our new home, whether they’re joining us for a familiar favourite, a special occasion or to discover the space for the first time. With The Ivy Asia making its Scottish debut alongside our beautiful new brasserie, this marks a hugely exciting new chapter for The Ivy in Glasgow.”

Upon opening on Tuesday, 20 October, The Ivy Glasgow Brasserie will offer an all-day dining experience, including breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner, with a menu of contemporary classics and Ivy signature dishes. The Ivy Asia Glasgow will introduce Asian-inspired flavours, presented dishes, and hand-crafted sushi. Reservations are currently open for both restaurants via ivycollection.com.
