GLASGOW restaurant Mharsanta is set to host a series of Euro-themed events this summer to coincide with the UEFA European Football Championships.
The Merchant City eatery will bring Scottish sport and cuisine together for a string of unique pre-match events ahead of Scotland’s matches against Czech Republic, England and Croatia this June.
On Monday 14 June, Friday 18 June and Tuesday 22 June, event-goers will have the chance to sample delicious local produce and hear from some of Scotland’s legendary footballers, before supporting the national team in its first major finals in 22 years.
Before kick-off, guests will enjoy a welcome drink and a two-course lunch or dinner with wine, choosing from a menu that offers a true taste of Scotland.
After the meal, guests will be joined by two of the biggest names in Scottish football history for a question-and-answer session, before supporting their team live on Mharsanta’s specially installed big screen TVs.
Football fans are in for a treat, with the chance to quiz two of Scottish football’s biggest stars ahead of the match including Stuart McCall – who played in 40 international matches for Scotland during his career, Celtic star Murdo MacLeod who will share his memories of playing in the 1990 World Cup Finals, 1998 FIFA World Cup Scotland squad member Simon Donnelly, and Rangers midfielder of 13 years Ian Durrant, who gained 20 caps for the Scotland national team during his career.
Derek Mallon of Mharsanta said: “We’re really looking forward to giving both foodies and football fans a Euros experience to remember with these special events in June. The games will be sure to create a real buzz and excitement among everyone this summer and we wanted to give people the chance to make a day of it with excellent food and drink and some top-class chat from some of our footballing favourites.
“It’s a positive time as we see the hospitality industry start to reopen and we hope our Euro-themed series will give people something special to look forward to. Spaces for this unique dining experience are limited so we would encourage people to snap up their spot.”
The events are planned to take place at Mharsanta – which is Gaelic for merchant – before the following UEFA Euro 2020 Scotland matches: Scotland v Czech Republic on Monday 14 June at 2pm, England v Scotland on Friday 18 June at 8pm and Scotland v Croatia on Tuesday 22 June at 8pm.
