The award-winning Physician Bar in St Andrews has unveiled The Physician’s Cocktail Trail, a first-of-its-kind immersive drinks experience for the town, where every serve is rooted in local story and heritage.

Launched today (Wednesday 24 June 2026), the concept invites guests to explore St Andrews through a curated collection of nine cocktails, each inspired by a landmark, legend or defining feature of the town. Designed to spark discovery, conversation and celebration, the trail also includes non-alcoholic options, ensuring it is accessible to all.

Drawing on St Andrews’ rich history and character, the bar’s mixologists have crafted each drink to reflect a specific place and its narrative, transforming the cocktail list into a storytelling experience. Guests are encouraged to move through the town one sip at a time, uncovering the stories that have shaped it over centuries.

The journey begins with Doctor John, a delicate blend of vanilla vodka, orgeat and citrus, inspired by Dr John Adamson (1809–1870), the pioneering physician and physicist who produced Scotland’s first calotype portrait in 1841.

From there, Hamish’s Strut offers a vibrant mix of mango and rum with peach and ginger ale, paying tribute to the much-loved Hamish McHamish statue on Market Street, a symbol of the town’s charm and community spirit.

At St Andrews Cathedral, The Haunted Lady introduces a more mysterious note, combining vodka, pear, amaretto and coconut milk, inspired by tales surrounding the cathedral ruins and its haunted tower.

The coastal landscape is captured in Wild Swim, a refreshing combination of rum, honeydew, salt and soda, echoing the calm of Castle Sands tidal pool and the harbour.

Gunpowder delivers a bold and complex serve of Ki No Bi Sei Navy Strength gin, Suze, rhubarb and ginger shrub, drawing on the dramatic history of St Andrews Castle and Gregory’s Place.

At St Salvator’s Quad, Red Gown blends pink gin, lemon, red wine and vanilla in a nod to the traditions and pageantry of student life.

Chariots of Fire, inspired by the iconic West Sands scene, brings together whisky, Earl Grey, apple and rosemary in a warming, cinematic serve.

The Swilcan Bridge cocktail honours the world-famous golfing landmark with a contemplative mix of whisky, pine bitters and honey, reflecting both heritage and legacy.

The trail concludes with Blackfriars Ruin, a bold and smoky combination of gin, Lillet Blanc, Cointreau, lemon and burnt absinthe, inspired by the town’s hidden histories.

Julie Dalton, owner of The Physician Bar (Adamson and Hatch), said: “St Andrews is a town defined by its stories – from its ancient ruins and academic traditions to its coastal beauty and global reputation. With The Physician’s Cocktail Trail, we wanted to create something that truly captures that spirit.

“This isn’t for the faint-hearted – it’s a literal taste tour of St Andrews. Each drink represents a different part of the town, taking guests on a journey through its history, landmarks and character.

“Whether you’re enjoying one cocktail or the full experience, it’s about immersing yourself in the story of St Andrews in a completely new way. We’re proud to be introducing something creative and entirely new to the town.”

Located in the heart of St Andrews, The Physician Bar continues to build a reputation for experience-led hospitality, combining inventive mixology with a strong sense of place. The Physician’s Cocktail Trail offers both locals and visitors a fresh way to engage with the town’s heritage, where every drink reveals a story.

Drinks are available exclusively at The Physician Bar. The trail serves as a guide to locations across St Andrews.
