Abu Bakr Supermarket has announced the appointment of Esa Hussain, aged 20, to its board as Commercial Director, joining the Managing Director Hamza Hussain, who was recently appointed by the board as MD at just 22.

In his new role, Esa will oversee both product procurement and sales performance across all existing stores, as well as future outlets set to open as part of Abu Bakr Supermarket’s ambitious expansion plans.

His responsibilities include managing product sourcing, supplier relationships, and sales strategy, ensuring a consistent, high-quality offering while driving commercial growth across the chain.

The board appointed Esa to bring commercial expertise and a forward-thinking perspective to support the company’s growth strategy. His appointment reinforces Abu Bakr Supermarkets’ commitment to innovation, quality, and a customer-focused product range.

Hamza Hussain, Managing Director, said: “Appointing Esa as Commercial Director is a proud moment. At just 20 years old, he brings incredible talent and energy to the business.

“He will oversee product procurement and sales performance across all stores, ensuring our expansion maintains the quality, variety, and service our customers expect. Working together, we share a vision and drive that make this business so dynamic and I’m sure people will be hearing a great deal more about ‘The Hussain brothers’.”

Esa Hussain added: “I’m truly honoured to join the board of Abu Bakr Supermarkets as Commercial Director during such an exciting period of growth. I look forward to managing product sourcing and driving sales across all stores, both existing and future. Being part of the company’s expansion at just 20 is incredibly motivating, and I’m excited to contribute to the future of the Abu Bakr Group.”

The appointment highlights Abu Bakr Supermarket forward-thinking leadership and its strategy to combine youthful energy with strategic vision as it prepares to open several new stores along with an innovative food concept in Leeds called Aura.

Abu Bakr Supermarket has grown steadily over the past decade and remains one of the most recognisable independent supermarket chains in Leeds, with multiple locations across the city and ambitious plans for continued expansion.
