Edinburgh’s Bonnie & Wild has made history by becoming the world’s first food hall to achieve B Corp certification, marking a significant milestone for the capital’s thriving food and drink scene.

The globally recognised accreditation, awarded by independent non-profit B Lab, celebrates businesses that meet the highest standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability. Bonnie & Wild achieved a score of 89.9 in the rigorous B Impact Assessment, well above the global average of 50.9.

Since opening, Bonnie & Wild has built its reputation around a commitment to “proudly serve the best of Scotland”, championing local producers, independent operators and high-quality Scottish ingredients. The food hall is home to 14 kitchens and speciality retailers, all operated by owner-led Scottish businesses, collectively supporting more than 100 jobs.

Its offering is distinctly Scottish throughout, from its bar and gantry to its Rarity bottle shop, which specialises in Scottish craft spirits. The venue has become known for its welcoming atmosphere, diverse culinary line-up and strong emphasis on provenance.

Ryan Barrie, Managing Director of Bonnie & Wild, said: “This is significant milestone for Bonnie & Wild, and I’m enormously proud of our entire team for their efforts in making Bonnie & Wild the first food hall in the world to become a certified B Corp.

“This latest accolade is a glowing reflection of the supportive community we’ve established, including our staff, concessions, suppliers and customers, who have all supported Bonnie & Wild to become one of Scotland’s most visited food and drink destinations.

“Importantly, B Corp certification means our guests, whether loyal fans or first-time visitors, can be assured that the money they spend within Bonnie & Wild is with a purpose-led business committed to championing Scottish entrepreneurs and start-ups, supporting our teams and the local community, and working to safeguard the wider environment.”

The certification forms part of the Edinburgh B Corp 500 initiative, led by Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce and Everyone’s Edinburgh, which aims to support 500 businesses in the city to achieve B Corp status by 2030. With more than 1,900 B Corps in the UK and over 8,500 worldwide, Edinburgh is increasingly positioning itself as a hub for ethical, purpose-driven enterprise.

Mayan Grace, Director of Projects at Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce, said: “Edinburgh Chamber are delighted to congratulate Bonnie & Wild on achieving B Corp accreditation. Their dedication throughout our B Corp 500 cohort has been impressive. This milestone reflects their commitment to purpose-driven, responsible business.”

The latest recognition adds to a growing list of accolades for Bonnie & Wild, including a Scotland Food & Drink Excellence Award, a VisitScotland Taste Our Best quality assurance award, and being named among the UK’s best food halls by both The Times and National Geographic.
